lol amazing resolution. I mean the equipments are still recognizable.

calling out bullshit every time LLMs does something stupid so that every other day I can ask it to search "bullshit" in local log and extract what has made me angry into a rolling update memory/skill.

"Power is THE binding constraint in AI/SI" is too simple of a narrative, there are so many constraints, and so many things need to get better. But because it is such a simple narrative, more and more people will tell it and use it, especially in this world filled with LLM autocompletes and actual thinking and experience being scarce.
He who shapes power, data centers, chips and models into an economically feasible endpoint, disproportionately shapes AI/SI right now.
Why?
Power is THE binding constraint in AI/SI. Few really have it.
Data centers don’t work without power. This is not about promises of power tomorrow. Or forecasted power in 2028. Power TODAY.
Chips can’t operate profitably unless installed in a functional data center. If you can install chips, it’s because you’ve solved the power problem.
Models aren’t economically viable unless run on cost effective infrastructure which requires a functional data center with low input costs and reliable management. This can’t happen without power.
AI/SI ROI doesn’t pencil unless models generate profitable outputs which necessarily needs functional data centers as the critical input. Again, power.
Ergo, he who can shape data centers, chips and models together into a tightly coordinated stack is someone who has solved power.
Solving power allows you to disproportionately shape AI/SI right now.

kind of sad LLMs have collapsed the distance between intelligence and rent seeking to zero

having proper context is hard. Muse has been questioning my meeting planning and prep since I connected it to google calendar while unaware of all other communication channels. It will draft bullshit questions and ask me to review and send to other parties, it's been growingly annoying and I have to ask it to turn it off.

from august to now, my timeline for chinese flooding the InP laser market has updated from 2-3 year to next year, and UHP maybe 1-2 more years. One of the chinese laser guys said them alone can make few times more than total market demand next year, and they were kindly asked (begged) to not do it, "CEO's job is to put food into everyone's bowl (instead of crashing the market)" blah blah
their yield sucks and varies a lot among them, but every single one of them are way more willing to expand and eat the market.

The most important thing I learned at FMS todat is from a hedgie I met up with.
He told me a lot of people are long memory short optics. Apparently all the Point72 people think China will flood the market with lasers.
Should be fun. I enjoy proving others wrong.

i still remember a friend describing it as "apple is really good at choking suppliers neck", with vivid facial and body language, it's so good, almost like he had secondary trauma from it
"Apple had access to its NAND flash suppliers’ books and reviewed them so often that it even got a discount from Deloitte."
LMAO

first time seeing second harmonic generation inside a laser cavity, and turns out the idea is almost 60 years old. It is a nonlinear output coupler, and funny enough under ideal optimal laser operation with gain saturation, the SHG power is the same as usual max laser output , the SHG "autotunes" to the optimal output coupler config, and it adapts to any pump power, where a usual laser you have to adjust the output mirror accordingly.
there is more nuance behind this statement, but it roughly makes sense, you want more output coupling when you get more gain from pumping harder, the optimal of which turns out to be linear wrt. intracavity intensity, and SHG loss is proportional to intensity. The SHG output is only weakly dependent of the material SHG strength when laser is well above threshold and low intracavity loss, so you can shove anything in as well as be a bit away from (quasi) phase matched.
sadly this TFLN demo is not near this condition at all, but they still get considerable SH power. Now what if they made the SHG resonant as well?

seems like you do not win much from making the SH resonant..
i hate this kind of E-DBR... horrible tunable mirror, i can come up with a few different ways to tune a mirror much more effectively. I guess advantage is you are not as sensitive to the noise on the tuning voltage.
