Life's not too different. If you put in an honest effort and take care of those closest to you, you'll be rewarded.

With all that in mind, I'm pumped to share:

This has always been at the core of my hockey watching. Lotta numbers are great cause they bring you to what you need to watch closer. This week on our show @VallysView talked about how it all leads him to video. Great stuff here:
Spencer Carbery on how he balances advanced analytics with the eye test and why coaches need to look beyond the numbers:

“I think for more times than not, I don't know the exact percentage I would put on it, not to get too technical, but most times they match up. It's like, But there are times where you're like, ugh, it doesn't feel like that. And then usually that's when you do a deeper dive.

What you have to understand is some of the metrics, so let's just say loose-puck recoveries. Say you're dead last in loose-puck recoveries in the offensive zone. You're like, ooh, that's not very good. We got to recover the puck more in the offensive zone.

So what you can do is now I can go, if I don't really feel that way, I can go see our last 10 games of what they [Sportlogiq] consider a lost loose-puck recovery. So then I can watch them. And sometimes it's like, we had no chance of winning that puck. So that shouldn't be in that category.

But because this is all AI and no one's watching that. So you might go through them and go like, we didn't really lose, because my head goes to we're losing battles on loose pucks. You could watch 100 of them and you're like, 50 of them, we had no chance to win the puck. They just beat us in a race, they had position and they won the puck.

You got to use logic a little bit. I don't overdo it when it comes to the underlying numbers. It's like you can't go crazy and just start going like, this is the gospel, like, this is what we are. You got to take it with a grain of salt and make sure that you're watching.

That's what I've always tried to do, is make sure that I am extremely detailed with what I'm seeing and what I'm cutting and breaking down on the film, and then I can apply the analytics that, that makes perfect sense, because that's exactly what I'm seeing.” #ALLCAPS

In the flat cap era, every team was chasing contract efficiencies to ice the best rosters. But @jtbourne writes now that the cap is rising so much, both teams and players should reconsider how they think about contract term. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ho…

Jets, that is an all-timer. Can't remember anything like that, ever? 4-cobb with 2 mins and change left??

Trade context aside the way Kucherov moves on the PP flank is unbelievable. If I coached junior or college or something, I'd make my PP guys watch the fake-shuffle-fake-shuffle movements. Hell, if I coached most NHL teams 😂
Tracksuits are out today before #GoBolts morning skate at The Bench and Nikita Kucherov is out here early working with Brayden Point. As players have said, he’s definitely not quitting on this team.

We gotta get a poppy option that’s like, for $25 you can get one with a safety pin or something. I will always support, and wear the poppy. Proud to. But this pin thing is insane.

Leafs D, from a @DobberHockey chart I like. Higher up means you play tougher competition. Farther left means you start more in the D-zone. Bigger circle means you play more minutes. Blue is more shot attempts for than against, red the opposite. What a month from Stecher.

Could grind on the details here - the shot attempts is "relative," so, compared to the averages of your teammates, it's minimum five games, etc, I just like this stuff as an "at a glance." Nick Blankenburg kinda done what he can with the most sheltered mins possible, for example.

It’s so funny because of COURSE you pre-game for McDavid. Whole plan. Slow him down, push him to the walls, back off and give him above, whatever. Puck drops and you’re trying to tame a wild horse.

He's not wrong. Walman's relationship with Babs is in his hands; you know exactly what he's looking for.
Mike Babcock on working with Jake Walman:

"He sits down and meets with me again here today and we go through the whole process. And then you have a look at what am I going to do?

"Now, the other thing about it, and I've said this to my kids over the years when they were little all the time, and it didn't go as good for them. Are you going to let any coach be mentally tougher than you are? Are you going to let someone else decide where you're going?

"No. What you're going to do is you're going to put your work boots on and you're going to get back to work, and you're going to feel good about working hard that day. And then when you get prepared for your opportunity, when you get it, you're normally ready. When you feel bad, when you don't put in the work, you feel sorry for yourself. When you get the opportunity, you're not ready.

"Now, I'm not trying to pretend life is fair, but I'm gonna say to you, embrace whatever you've been given and make it better."
