Ben Affleck’s career hasn’t been the same since he played Bruce Wayne. I say this in light of Affleck’s latest film Animals (🌟), which is totally beneath Affleck’s talent as both a director & an actor. But Animals serves as a strong reminder that since 2016, when Affleck first starer trajectory has trended downward.
By the time Affleck signed on for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which released in 2016, his career was white hot. Affleck had taken the world by storm with The Town, he won an Oscar for Argo, and he starred in perhaps the best film of his career in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. By 2015, Affleck was the King of Hollywood and had completed an impressive comeback in his own right.
But with respect to films like Air & The Last Duel, since dawning the Bat Suit in 2016, Affleck hasn’t really done much. I know I’ve been hard on Affleck all week because of his admitted use of AI, but I’m not here to do that right now. I’m just here to point out that from just a creative standpoint, it’s been a minute since Affleck has really given us something memorable. And that minute traces back to his time as Bruce Wayne.

Nobody wants to spend months building something, only to find out nobody wanted it.
When I started spending time in builder communities, I kept seeing the same problem: the product gets built, but the customer is still a hypothesis.
If you're going to create an app, you have to create a customer alongside it. That idea led me to write Distribution Is Hard, talk to founders, and eventually use agents to test my hypotheses about founder pain. That research became Dog Food Labs, which led to Foundercheck.
Foundercheck is now on V3, with 200+ founders having used it. It helps pre-seed founders work through the questions an investor would ask, see where their understanding is clear and where it's still based on assumptions, and figure out what to investigate next.
I'm sharing it here because I don't believe this is something founders with zero resources should have to pay for. I see it as a public good for the communities I'm part of.
