The Colorado makes headlines. The Rio Grande is in a worse state of collapse. Last year, I traveled 1900mi along the river. I saw the worst drought in 1200 years; I saw 15 million people about to lose drinking water.
And I met people fighting—and killing—over water. READ NOW:

We’re renting the Latino vote. Not owning it.
They want a fair shot and to not be profiled for who they are. They want a chance at the American dream. Our job is to make it real. If we don’t deliver, we lose them again.

Latinos are not the sleeping giant. We're the swinging giant.
I spoke with @TIME about the shift in Latino support away from Trump and why Democrats can't take these gains for granted.

Per this analysis, Black & Latino voters in TX increased their share of the electorate over the prior presidential; that is not normal. (*Though AAPI had done it in ‘18.) Non-white voters cast ballots at ~90% the totals of 2024, to 84% for white voters.
Preliminary estimates of TEXAS turnout and shares of the electorate by race/ethnicity. 780k more Latino voters in TX than in 2022, versus 480k more White voters. Latinos made up 44% of the overall increase in turnout. This was not (just) a story about Latino Rs staying home.

This has gotta be one of the most brutal losses of the cycle.
This was supposed to be a solid Republican seat. Trump won here by 17+ points in 2024; the incumbent Monica De La Cruz won it by 14.2 points that year.
Bobby Pulido, a first-time candidate, just destroyed her.

Last month I wrote about how this was going to go down. Part of the story here: De La Cruz got screwed over by her own party:

Dems Jon Ossoff, James Talarico + Roy Cooper would've won their Senate races without any Election Day votes
Math so you don't have to do it:
Ossoff 1,771,988 early / 60k > Collins total
Talarico 4,397,474 early / 148k > Paxton total
Cooper 1,809,879 early / 166k > Whatley total

We sat down with Marco Rubio in the White House this afternoon.
He dismissed reports that he was planning to leave the Trump adminstration and refused questions about his political future.
More to come...

Last week, after being out in rural and suburban areas talking to conservative Texas voters who told me they planned to split their tickets or stay home, I suggested we might want to prep a blue wave story. I told colleagues that in my 16 years in Texas, I’ve never heard voters talk like this. So how did it happen, and where do we go from here? washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/…

I talked to @arelisrhdz about what connects the Latino vote in 2024 & 2026.
“The through-line between 2024 and 2026 is that Latino communities rejected federal immigration policies that created fear and chaos in their communities.
Dems should take this warning seriously. washingtonpost.com/immigration/20…
