We were delighted to host @jessphillips, Safeguarding Minister from the Home Office, at Missing People last week.

Jess met with the team who deliver our vital helpline and family support services, as well as people with lived experience of being missing or having a loved one nt to have a Minister who's got experience of working with missing people, and who really understands the challenges they face.

I was incredibly proud to speak Bethany Rae Fields' name at Prime Minister’s questions today in Parliament.

Bethany was murdered outside her workplace in 2019 by her ex-partner. Bethany approached the police multiple times before her murder and this brutal killing should never Pauline, and her entire family, show incredible strength as they campaign to create a lasting legacy in her name.

Pauline's campaign aims for Bethany’s initials BRF—"Believe, React, Fast"—to become a standard approach for authorities in handling stalking and abuse cases, shaping related policy, legislation, and guidance.

I’m proud to back her campaign and I was delighted to sit down with Pauline and the Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girl, Jess Phillips, to discuss this heartbreaking case.

As the Prime Minister said in response to my question today, the Government is committed to halving violence against women and girls. I’m encouraged by new steps to improve support for victims, including embedding domestic abuse experts in 999 control rooms.

There’s more to do, and I look forward to continued government reforms on this critical issue.

The Home Office’s treatment of the Windrush generation shamed our country. We will make sure the voices of the Windrush community are heard and systemic changes are made.

It is time for a fundamental re-set. It is time to right the wrongs of Windrush.

Margaret Thatcher famously encountered this sort of nonsense at her selection meetings…in the late 1950s.
NEW: Conservative MP Sir Christopher Chope says Kemi Badenoch is “preoccupied with her children” and “you can't spend all your time with your family at the same time as being leader of the opposition”.

He was speaking on this month's @itvmeridian The Last Word. @ITVNewsPolitics

Christopher Chope is not a serious person. No one should be surprised by stupidity it's a regular occurrence. Luckily he's as influential as an empty space.

Kemi Badenoch has three children. Her youngest child is 5, her oldest is 11.

Robert Jenrick has three children. His youngest child is 8, his oldest is 12.

But obviously her situation is totally different from his and makes her too ditzy and distracted to be party leader 🤷‍♀️
Christopher Chope accuses critics of "mischief-making" and stands by what he said about Kemi Badenoch.

He tells @TimesRadio: "I repeat the point which I was making before, and that is that Kemi has got a young family and so it's less likely that she's going to be able to spend as much time as is required as somebody who hasn't got the commitments of a young family. Now, that's not suggesting she's unsuited or anything like that to be the leader of the opposition. And I just think there's a lot of mischief-making going on here.

"All I'm saying is that one of the candidates has got a younger family than the other one. And has also got a record of wanting to spend more time with her family than engage in going to far-flung constituencies."

I wrote about the new Cafcass guidance to better protect victims of domestic abuse. The new policy says domestic abuse should not be downplayed as “historical”, nor should a person’s reports of abuse be described as “claims” or “allegations”. Read more 👉 shorturl.at/Gw7lF

This woman deserves the Nobel peace prize. I will never not be bowled over by the courage she has shown, the resilience, the strength to use her pain to highlight the plight of so many other women.
My God, the courage.

No woman should ever face harassment or intimidation for going to a healthcare appointment.

Nearly ten years ago in Opposition, I called on the Government to introduce buffer zones round abortion clinics.

Now in Government we are acting. On 31 October, it will become the law.
📢 Protection zones around abortion clinics to be in force throughout the country to protect women from intimidation and harassment.

From 31 October, attempts to influence the decisions of abortion service users or employees within a 150m radius of a clinic will become illegal.
