This is my 3rd year paying for 𝕏 Premium annually and if I'm being honest...

Seeing how poorly behaved all the monetized accounts are over the latest payout changes to incentivize *original content* has really soured my enthusiasm for renewing at the end of this subscription.

Really not excited about my money going into the pockets of people who run aggregate, repost, slop accounts and have blatant disregard for intellectual property rights.

I've never been paid a cent on this platform, but I'm a full-time creator over on YouTube where we're held to actual standards.

95% of the videos I see posted here would never be eligible for YouTube monetization.

Most are straight up copyright infringement.

Y'all have no idea how lax the requirements here really are - it's obviously encouraged some of the worst "creators" to exploit the system.

Being verified with the blue check isn't enough of a benefit, nor do I use Grok that frequently or need 𝕏 for networking purposes.

So I can't think of a good reason to keep paying and probably won't...

Hey @grok is there anything substantially incorrect or inaccurate in my original post?

Can you explain why no one can definitively say something is or isn't fair use outside going through federal court proceedings?

And also how previous case rulings don't necessarily set legal precedent for future copyright infringement cases?

(btw I would encourage anyone to fact check any posts about the topic of Fair Use, because most of what I see people state is grossly bad misinformation)

This has got to be rage bait, right???
Recently I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about being asked to clean an Airbnb when they’ve already paid a cleaning fee

As a host, I find this attitude quite worrying

My wife and I rent out the apartment in Germany. We charge a €145 cleaning fee, and we still expect guests to:

1. Strip the beds and start a wash, separating whites from colours

2. Wash, dry and put away all dishes

3. Sweep and mop the floors

4. Take out all rubbish, separating paper, cardboard, clear glass, coloured glass, plastics, metal, organic waste and residual waste

5. Take bottles with a deposit to the supermarket return machine.

6. Send photos showing the apartment is ready before the 8:30am checkout

These tasks must be completed before departure. If you have an early flight, allow time the evening before

The cleaning fee pays for professional cleaning. It does not pay for someone to pick up after you

Here in Europe, we teach children to leave a place as they found it

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the same from adults on holiday

While I *do not agree* with creators doing this to silence critics & detractors, this is one of the many hazards of relying heavily or entirely on 3rd party material you don't own...

Dealing with copyright issues comes with the territory and is something you'll have to deal with as situations arise.

"Clipping small segments is absolutely fair use."

FALSE 🚫

Just declaring something fair use doesn't make it true.

Fair use is an affirmative legal defense used in U.S. copyright infringement lawsuits - NOT a pre-approved right or protection against being sued.

It can only be adjudicated in federal court.

Personally, I think this account has a rather weak fair use case just by clipping segments and adding a caption.

They need to add substantive transformative value and create an entirely *new* video that incorporates the source material.

Note: this is in line with the 𝕏 Original Content Rewards program standards.

QTCinderella has been sending out mass false DMCA takedowns to channels, including mine. I have received 10 of these takedowns from clips in 2025. Clipping small segments is absolutely fair use

@qtcinderella is one of the few creators who will try to continually silence others ne this before. If this was a mistake or misidentification, hopefully she can retract it

Hey @grok! What are some specific actionable examples of ways content creators can add transformative value to 3rd party source material (ie: clips and excerpts from live streams / podcasts) to strengthen their fair use case?

FYI πŸ’‘ I've seen people suggest YouTube creators encourage their followers to run VODs and playlists "in the background" to help them hit the required 4,000 watch time hours for monetization.

Doing this is technically against YouTube TOS and may jeopardize your channel.

This is 't try this at home kids.

Per YouTube directly:
"Our systems consistently validate traffic on YouTube and will remove views and/or watch hours from counting towards YPP eligibility if they have been detected as fake engagement. Fake engagement is defined as artificially increased channel metrics, including inorganic watch hours, views, likes, comments, or other engagement metrics."

Hot Take πŸ”₯ If you've been grinding for years and still don't have enough traction to get monetized on YouTube, it's time to drastically change *something.*

In my opinion, too many aspiring content creators are doing low effort gaming channels.

They're not charismatic or interesting enough to make it work.

I also believe it's gonna be a real uphill battle for faceless channels, clips, reactions - anything that relies heavily on 3rd party IP.

My best + brutally honest recommendation to anyone who wants to do this on a serious level is to lock in on truly ORIGINAL CONTENT (you own πŸ’―% or as close to possible of the intellectual property - not gameplay or screenshares, we're talking about picking up a real camera and shooting actual footage) and choose a specific niche with a BUYING AUDIENCE.
You now have only 100 DAYS left to get monetized on YouTube with 4000 watch hours.

(it becomes 8000 Feb 1, 2027).

Whenever I am featuring gifted products I will disclose in the following 3 ways:
1) Verbally
2) On screen text
3) Caption / description box

(Longform YouTube videos AND Shorts/Reels/TikToks)

That being said, I don't accept a lot of free products in general - honestly because I find doing this to be kind of a hassle.
