Six degrees of separation as a game is like "Geoguessr for tech"

While this may be a Tower of Babel story (we got AI that can code everyone's ideas but every dependency gets rewritten), we have specs like SAML or YAML w/ implementations in different languages.

Development is cheaper but developed stuff is not; I'd predict more OSS to exist
What’s going to happen to open source?

A prediction:

Dependencies are over.

The same Brotli vulnerability impacted .NET, Node, Bun, Envoy and more. Dependencies are too big of a target.

When rewriting a dependency is one prompt away, why take the risk?

Over the course of free software (free like speech not beer) to open source (Open Source Initiative) to the state it's in today, there was always a convenience to stuff that's available online. However, I suspect the real value is the community/network

"One major effect of confinement will be the expansion and progression of the digital world in a decisive and often permanent matter"

While this was more about social distancing and the popularization of working remote, there's a deja vu with AI replacing jobs and cybersec FUD

One thing that’s maybe funny is prior hyped tech would stack on top of earlier ones with enthusiasm e.g. crypto being used to fuel IoT devices as part of gig economy

Now AI sorta flips the table and reveals issues that were always there. Like Thiel on how COVID didn’t worsen things but simply revealed faults in institutions
BREAKING: Europe is under a massive cyber attack, with supermarket fridges and freezers in Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland and Estonia all hacked today by raising temperatures to up to 50°C, destroying huge quantities of food, per Reuters.

"Everything is destroyed," a sales manager in Sweden said, adding that "there has been a cyberattack and all our freezers reached 50 degrees."

More than 40 supermarkets in Belgium and Luxembourg were affected. "I only have two words for them: wake up, please, because there's something going on," a store manager in Belgium said.

This follows a similar cyberattack last month that hit hundreds of supermarkets in France, raising freezers as high as 80°C and causing major food losses.

It also comes after freezers at 6 US military bases mysteriously malfunctioned, spoiling large quantities of food, which the Pentagon is investigating as a suspected cyberattack.

The folks who are most surprised by the cybersecurity frenzy are unaware of how high trust things were in tech historically.

Worst case isn’t Skynet bc of a rogue swarm, it’s Skynet by means of mutually assured destruction after nations shut down enemies’ utilities remotely

This is why the lesson is bitter; but the rewards can be great

We had lookup tables until calculators turned solving formulas into button presses. We had rolodexes until the web turned finding folks into button presses. We had experts until AI turned responsibilities into tasks
there are many caveats, but personally i find myself pretty concerned by this directional trend towards highly efficient algorithms for things we previously thought fundamentally hard. it makes the upper bounds of capabilities stretch much, much further

How is the internet less private than in 2006, when the whole family shared one computer?

Back then, the internet was weird, personal, and all of ours.

So, we got your favorite meme legends back together to say it louder: What happened to the internet? 1/3

First compensation packages included token budgets, now folks are gonna demand they can “order food agentically”

We’re finally witnessing the consequences of banning in-office kitchens
We've seen a lot of enthusiasm around the DoorDash CLI, and people have been asking for it to work across their teams. Today, we're introducing the DoorDash MCP for corporate ordering, so your team’s agents can place group orders, restock the office, schedule team lunches, track We’re proud that @spacexai, @vercel, @cognition, @Tempo, and @mercor are some of our early adopters already using the DoorDash MCP so employees can order agentically. A few great use cases we’ve seen so far: agents automatically restocking office supplies and snacks based on inventory signals, and Slackbots to collect the team’s lunch requests and handle placing the order.

And we’re opening availability of our dd-cli to more developers in the US and Canada on macOS and Linux. Show us what you build and check out some really cool ways folks are using the CLI!

Get access to the MCP or CLI here: developer.doordash.com/mcp
