It's been hard for early career biologists looking for postdocs, so I created a sheet where we can all compile fellowships/job boards/postdoc opportunities in one place. PLEASE SHARE WIDELY! If you're a PI looking for postdocs, you can add to the 4th tab! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

To anyone who is going to use the TikTok ban to tell sci commers that "now they can focus more on their degree," that it was a "waste of time" or that sci comm "isn't important" - Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it isn't valuable.

100% of the profits from the sale of these cards will be donated to the building of CephRef! It's a wonderful initiative started by scientists at @ALCESonline and I'm really excited for it to reach its full potential!

@ALCESonline Here's more info about the creators behind each piece! This was organized here on X and also in our cephalopod professionals discord. I'm really happy with how they all turned out! I love being part of a field that contains so many artists

This is a great question, and one of the answers is a great secret that explains a huge amount of how the world works.
First: We have been cooking food for a long time to free up calories that would otherwise be unavailable. We’ve been doing this long enough that it as affected our physiology.
But the second answer is the big one: Humans are able to behave as if our lives are extremely valuable. Deer and coyotes and pigeons and hawks and bears drop like flies. They die constantly. Humans have the ability to not accept this and so we do all kinds of crazy things to prevent ourselves from puking or shitting our brains out or dying.
We’re perfectly capable of eating and digesting raw meat, but we do not do it because we have the ability to make a different decision that decreases the amount of time we spend suffering.
