@munawwarfiroz Yea size and multiple attributes already work well on iOS and Android. Few developers ever use them because they can’t be styled on desktop, which is why we need appearance: base. Here’s iOS:

@MonierFr @garethheyes You can configure it to remove whichever HTML/SVG elements you want. The default namespace is w3.org/1999/xhtml. If you want to remove SVG you have to specify namespace: 'w3.org/2000/svg'

@argyleink Is this change you mention in your article a change to the default styles or is it now impossible to make a select that uses appearance: base-select be the same width as the longest option in the picker? width: max-content doesn't have any effect.

Only 2.5% of mobile web pages use shadow DOM. Is it worth adding more complexity to the web platform for such a niche technology?

Do we have too much of a taboo about using straightforward element selectors instead of classes? With :where you can keep specificity at 0,0,1. Use a layer and it's easy to override regardless. If you need to blow away all the styles you can in a single line of CSS.

Palmer Luckey, the guy who invented modern VR, is apparently “dumb”, according to @verge
I can no longer read The Verge. If I want politics, I’ll read a newspaper.
@verge has become hysterically hyper-partisan. Every other article is about Elon Musk when I just want to read about the Switch 2 or MidJourney or WWDC or VR or whatever.
What’s the best alternative?

@dannievinther Other than adding the opacity slider to the picker, not really. The picker looks the same as it did in Safari 18.4 on macOS Sequoia, except with a bit of extra border radius and the opacity range slider design has been updated.

I'm sure Apple will finesse Liquid Glass over the coming year. When enabling Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast in user settings it actually looks pretty cool (and far more readable).

Many are comparing Apple’s new Liquid Glass design to Windows Vista. It feels more like a modern take on the MacOS Aqua design from 2000-.

There’s a feature flag but I have no idea how usable it is.
Being part of Interop does mean that at some point this year both features will be available in all stable browsers.

I had assumed the Gregorian calendar & ISO 8601 calendar are largely equivalent, yet I've run into "Uncaught RangeError: calendars "iso8601" and "gregory" aren't compatible"'
ISO is the default of Temporal, 'gregory' is the default for Intl in most locales

@therealptomato I enjoyed your Temporal talk. If I am only displaying dates as Gregorian, do I need to explicitly set that using .withCalendar when doing calculations? Or are iso8601 and gregory similar enough that I don’t need to?

x.com/adamwathan/sta…
Confession: The `apply` feature in Tailwind basically only exists to trick people who are put off by long lists of classes into trying the framework.
You should almost never use it 😬
Reuse your utility-littered HTML instead.

I was experimenting more with this approach to implementing dark mode. The drawback is it only works for colors. Combined with CSS style queries though it can work for other things...
@devongovett Potentially, if you define your styles with light-dark() you can start with <meta name="color-scheme" content="dark light"> to respect system settings then toggle between content="dark" and content="light" with JavaScript, and not use the media query at all.
