✨ We're celebrating the new year with something special. 🎉 Come join us for a chill Friday night with good food, good company, great music, data activities, and a space to think about the time and climate we live in. eventbrite.sg/e/roots-that-r…

After spending a year in reflection and intense discussion, Kontinentalist is starting a new chapter with a new mission. How do we tell data stories ethically? How do we decolonise data storytelling? What does it mean to draw on indigenous knowledge?

Tickets available here! 🎟️ This is to help us cover food costs (and prevent food waste) and location rental fees. eventbrite.sg/e/roots-that-r…

Bumming around Europe/UK till the end of the year! Here are some of my tentative travel days if anyone wants to meet up in these places 😀

Barcelona: 5 Nov to 12 Nov
Utrecht: 12 Nov to 19 Nov
Berlin: 19 Nov to 25 Nov
Edinburgh: 25 Nov to 29 Nov
Unplanned UK: 29 Nov to 5 Dec

Quick question: How many research papers have you actually read over the past year?

Based on our latest poll and feedback from the Lapis Live event, most people don’t read research papers—too dense, too long. That’s why we built Lapis, a no-code tool to turn your important research into engaging stories.

I’m in Stockholm for a little bit these weeks! Would anyone be up for a ☕️?

I’ve come to the end time at @UoE_EFI studying an MSc in Data, Inequality and Society! My life has completely changed this year, and I'm grateful for this opportunity thanks to the @CheveningFCDO.

I’ve learnt so much in my time here about data, ethics, coloniality, and what it means to adopt a decolonial approach to our work at @kontinentalist_ . I’m excited to share that I’ve returned to full-time work last week. I’ve missed this sorely.

In the coming months @kontinentalist_ and @LapisStory will be sharing at various events of our developing methodology that brings us back to the basics:

What is data? What is a visualisation? What is AI? What is a story? How do we make sense of these ethically?

📊Our flagship Data Storytelling workshop will make its final run for the year this October! You’ll discover effective techniques and learn our best practices through hands-on activities. Sign up at the link below!

These include: 📖 How to structure and storyboard a data story 📈 How to build a narrative data visualisation that gets your message across effectively 🎨 Emotionally effective and inclusive use of colours ❓Which chart is most effective for your work?
