With the leetcode-style type of interview, you don’t really assess the actual skills that a specific engineer needs to be able to do the job well. You assess whether the person has been practicing such types of challenges or not.
And if the standard in our industry is AI-assisted engineering, then it really makes no sense to “check the tech skills” with problems, which can be easily solved with a prompt.

My book "The Multiplier Mindset" is now available across most Amazon stores 🎉
The only exceptions are Canada, Brazil, and the US/international Amazon store. The book will be released on November 17. But of course, you can pre-order it!

Don’t assume that your managers already know you’re stuck. Share the problem and ask for help. Remember, they’re judged based on the work that you and the whole team does, so when you partner with your manager, your success is also their success.

It’s been an incredible journey bringing this book to life, and seeing it finally out in the world makes all the hard work worth it. I hope you find it as valuable to read as I found it rewarding to write!

Make sure to don't confuse movement with progress. You can generate something with AI in seconds, but is it actually impactful?
That's also where a lot of people confuse 10k LoC days with being extremely productive. LoC doesn't matter if you're building wrong things.

Managing up isn’t about pleasing your manager or agreeing with everything they say. It’s about building trust, communicating effectively, and creating a working relationship where both you and your manager can succeed.

Code review exercise seems to be the tech interview that is replacing leetcode (DSA). In this round, you are evaluated by how well you understand unfamiliar code, identify potential problems, communicate feedback, and make trade-offs.

One of the most important skills to learn as you grow in your career is to being able to "read the room".
When talking with fellow engineers, provide technical details, but when you’re talking to executives or other business stakeholders, keep the discussion focused on impact, trade-offs, and timelines.

One of the worst things you can do as an engineer is to think that "your work speaks for itself".

Make sure to share regular updates about the progress you’ve made, the challenges you’ve faced (and resolved), and the decisions you’ve taken along the way.
This is especially crucial when working on more complex projects where the results might take months to become visible.
