build more housing.
I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time.
We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s.
We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN.
For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee.
In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it.
Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further.

"Man's stock of tools marks out the stages of civilization, the stone age, the bronze age, the iron age. Tools are the result of successive improvement; the effort of all generations is embodied in them. The tool the direct and immediate expression of progress; it gives man d essential freedom."

The reason is pretty simple... constant stimulation is making our brains incapable of low-dopamine fun.
I saw of video of Ethan Hawke lamenting how he's not reading half as much as he once did. This is a much deeper and darker pattern. Some of the most avid readers I know, lifelong readers, have basically stopped. They hate it and can't even explain it, the fire's just gone out

i've been ranting that $ABNB should acquire CLEAR and build partnerships with ride-share apps, ticketing platforms, etc.
Just saw that Expedia partnered with CLEAR and Uber: "Together, we’re connecting the journey so travelers can go from booking to boarding with less friction and more control,”
So obvious, and makes the case even stronger!

been thinking about this a lot. The algo is turning everyone into NPCs and the only way to avoid it is to reject the algo from entering your psyche.
The fastest way to turn into a NPC is to fill every moment of stillness with audio books, podcasts, CEO interviews, tweets, threads, and YouTube videos.
The fastest way to turn into the Main Character is to spend more time in stillness and give yourself 4 hours to create.

I did not know that the Unabomber manifesto goes into great depth about AGI.
