the binance hack looks fake
biggest hack in crypto history and the closer you read the onchain data the less the official story lines up
binance says about $6.3b was impacted, arkham counts $6.01b pulled across 9 chains
the drain itself is real, every tx is on etherscan and 0:32 utc before binance said a word
first sweep hit the binance 14 hot wallet at 20:24 utc, about $2.5b in $eth $usdt and ~60 tokens in one tx
it worked because 50 eip-7702 delegations were signed with binance 14s own hot wallet key
binance statement says there is "no evidence of any wallet private key leak"
so who or what signed those 50 authorizations with that key????
within 12 minutes 10 more binance hot wallets on 4 chains were sending funds to the same address
official version starts with one compromised devops laptop
then richard teng says it was "not a single one-click action" but a "more complex attack process"
arkham has the drain running from 20:10 to 23:05 utc, about 3 hours start to finish
cz posts "user funds are safe" at 21:15 utc
29 minutes later the attacker sweeps binance 14 again for another $200m in $usdt.....
etherscan shows 3 separate sweeps of that same wallet at 20:24, 21:04 and 21:44 utc
llamarisk says the compromise was "still active more than two hours later"
deposits only got suspended around 00:07 utc according to cointelegraph
the attacker took $1.6b in $usdt and $823m in $usdc, the two most freezable assets onchain
blockaid says stablecoin issuers froze about $2.4b of it within roughly 2 hours
binance says about $3b is frozen and safu plus company funds cover the rest
safu is 15,000 $btc, roughly $1.15b at todays price, against a gap of about $3.3b
no breakdown yet of how much of that comes from company funds????
updated proof of reserves is promised "once the remediation is complete" with no date
full post mortem still not out
trm attributes it to north korean tradertraitor with high confidence and the laundering ran through thorchain
all of that can be true and the timeline still has holes nobody has explained
biggest hack ever and still no answer on who signed with binances own key????

I can only imagine how bad the devops engineer that was breached must feel.
I don't know if he was on linked in.
But if you're a devops engineer in crypto, get off of LinkedIn!
It's how the hackers find you. There are pages and pages of binance devops engineers listed a crypto company and proudly add it to your @LinkedIn profile, you are automatically added to the hackers' spearphish machine around the globe. It's a liability. @cz_binance

The hard truth is that @LinkedIn is where hackers start their day. @LinkedIn provides a complete org chart of all your employees. While we've known this for years as an industry, we've done shockingly little about it. Meanwhile, hackers have completely automated the process and within days of their start.
This is why @BitGo banned employee profiles on @LinkedIn last year. It's also why @BitGo never hires someone we haven't physically met (North Koreans don't leave DPRK!)

Im pretty sure this time is really different. Can @binance actually refund? If so, I doubt it will take months but maybe more than a year.
Binance’s $6.3 billion hack is the largest in crypto history, exceeding the $3.5 billion LuBian hack in 2020 and the $1.4 billion Bybit hack in 2025.

What if the chains all agreed to rollback? Just curious what would actually happen.
User funds are SAFU!
Yet, this pregnant lady 👇 pulled an all nighter, along side hundreds of Binancians.
Many industry friends and even competitors (including some previously-not-so-friendly ones) provided very much needed help. 🙏
It hurts, but we will survive. 💪

@elonmusk @HuaweiMate6 Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll. Please stop.
Our SPCX shares (from our $500m investment in your Twitter takeover) are worth more than a billion.
Would appreciate if you show a little support. Thanks!

we'll cover another chain in the next one, tell us which!
usdg just landed on @arbitrum. everyone is asking which pool to put it in.
u don't have to pick one.
we locked 20 dollars of $USDG once. it now backs four markets that are usdg/myrc and usdg/xsgd on @Uniswap v4 and @1inch aqua.
which currency should usdg pair with next?

Okay, no more hardware wallets, just new Iphones
Ledger isn't the only one, @Trezor devices sold by CryptoBilis also had an implant.
IMPORTANT: If you bought a Trezor from CryptoBilis from March 2026 onwards and are using it to store funds, please move your funds to a newly created wallet with a new seed as soon as possible.
If you have a device you are unsure of, DM me. I'll happily cover shipping fees and analyze your device.

Not surprising that is a state sponsored hack.
🇰🇵UPDATE: @zachxbt says stolen funds from the $6.3 billion @binance exploit and $388 million @bitget exploit were traced to the same address after passing through THORChain.
This suggests the same actor may be behind both attacks. The Bitget exploit was attributed to North tor, the same group linked to previous exploits, including KelpDAO.

Investigation update: Our initial investigation suggested that the security incident may have involved a compromised laptop, however our subsequent investigation has uncovered additional points of breach.
This was a complex attack, and we are doing all we can in coordination resolve it. We are still gathering the facts, and will share more directly as we have them.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe.
We are still on track towards the expected timeline to resume the withdrawal service in 45 hours. Deposits remain unaffected.
The outflows ceased when we paused withdrawal service earlier. We are still working with partners to freeze many of the impacted assets, and have frozen around $3 billion thus far.
We will continue to provide further updates through official Binance channels as more verified information becomes available.

I think I was lucky, because I withdraw all my funds before this ever happened
Singapore Police Say Ledger crypto Wallets Sold at Local Retailers Contained Malicious Hardware Implants
Singapore police said on October 28 that some Ledger cryptocurrency hardware wallets purchased from local retailers contained malicious hardware implants capable of stealing or private keys. At least two cases have been reported since September 10, resulting in losses of approximately S$3.5 million ($2.7 million). Ledger, a leading French hardware wallet manufacturer, is reviewing the affected cases, while police investigations remain ongoing.

I guess they acted fast?
Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
- revoked the affected address authorisation;
- engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.
Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions.
