Shameful news out of Georgetown Law.
New from me: Georgetown Law’s Student Bar Association passed a resolution this week condemning a Jewish attorney on Sen. Ted Cruz’s staff and accusing her of Islamophobia after she appeared on campus to discuss the Muslim Brotherhood and her work representing victims of terrorism.
Erielle Azerrad, Cruz's deputy chief counsel, spoke to students about the Brotherhood’s origins and how the group had expanded its operations in the US. She also noted the Muslim Students Association’s ties to the Brotherhood, though she disputed that such ties meant all Muslim students, or even all MSA members, were connected to the terrorist group.
The resolution accused Azerrad of promoting "Islamophobic beliefs and conspiracy theories" at the event and having a "well-documented record of false, bigoted, and harmful anti-Muslim rhetoric."

The schemes involved numerous organized interstate crime rings that have defrauded the federal government of more than $3 2024. The fraudsters stole EBT card data, mainly through skimming devices, to procure SNAP-eligible goods and sell them on the black market for personal gain, according to court documents.
At least 11 individuals have been indicted since last month, Oregon US Attorney Scott Bradford announced during a Wednesday press conference. These defendants have been accused of stealing over $140,000 from SNAP recipients.
"When SNAP benefits are stolen, families in Oregon go without food, children in Oregon go without meals, and I will not tolerate that," said Bradford. "If you steal from SNAP recipients, if you skim EBT cards, if you run fraud schemes that target our most vulnerable, your time is up."
The wave of indictments comes as the US Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon steps up its efforts to combat fraud, which is consistent with the White House Fraud Task Force's goal. Bradford highlighted two major SNAP fraud cases during the press briefing. Several investigations are still underway, with further indictments expected.
In US v Ramirez et al, a federal grand jury rendered indictments in October 2024 against 17 individuals, many of whom are illegal immigrants from Romania and Italy, in a scheme that stole over $2.4 million in SNAP benefits. The ringleader in this case is said to be 25-year-old Ramirez Dumitru, a Romanian national who was unlawfully residing in Gresham, Oregon.
The conspirators were divided into "theft crews" and "transport crews." The theft crew mainly stole EBT numbers through skimming devices connected to point-of-sale terminals. They used the fraudulently obtained EBT numbers to purchase infant formula, energy drinks, and other SNAP-eligible goods at grocery stores in Oregon and Washington, according to the complaint.
Members of the transport crew collected the stolen EBT-eligible food items and transported the items to California for resale on the illicit market. The transport crew regularly coordinated shipments from a storage unit in Vancouver, Washington, to a storage unit in San Pedro, California, court documents state.
According to the US Attorney's Office, 12 of the 17 defendants have been convicted and sentenced to a combined 157 months in prison, while two more have pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in December. The remaining three defendants are currently scheduled to go to trial. Many of the defendants in this case have since been deported, the US Attorney's Office told TPM.

Telescu pleaded guilty in September to access-device fraud and aggravated identity theft. He will be sentenced in January 2027. Two co-conspirators, Aramis and Cristina Manolea, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and were sentenced in May to time served plus three years of supervised release.
Oregon ranks third in the country for SNAP fraud, said Bradford, who explained that the state is vulnerable because the cards aren't chipped and organized crime rings take advantage. "That is unacceptable," said Bradford. "My office will continue pursuing these cases to safeguard the integrity of the program and uphold the trust placed in us to protect Oregon’s communities."

The students claim Erielle "endangers" Muslims - law students trying to call speech violence.
Student law group at @Georgetown released a resolution ATTACKING Erielle Azerrad, the Deputy Chief Counsel for Sen. Ted Cruz, after she spoke at an on-campus event about the dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organization.
They label her comments as "hate speech" and demanding that the university silence this speech.

这种敌意到底从何而来？
最现实的冲突在于：华人的日子越过越好，受害者叙事就越难自圆其说。
大家同样是外来者，同样面对异国他乡的壁垒。
甚至华人刚来的时候连法语都不会讲，更谈不上本地人脉。
如果有人靠一天干十几个小时，能把日子一点点撑起来，
那句“我们过不好全怪外界不公”，就很难再理直气壮地说出口。
一个闷头自立的人，往往会让习惯归咎环境的人感到刺眼。
更深层的错位在于对财富的理解。
在很多索取者的认知里，财富是一块固定死的大饼。
他们看不到那些批发店是怎样一箱一箱货物搬出来的，
只觉得华人的店铺赚到了钱，就是占了自己的便宜。
再加上华人素来习惯忍让，遇到纠纷往往选择息事宁人，
这种心态上的失衡，很快就落成了现实中的治安麻烦。
抢劫、尾随、街头袭击，接二连三指向这群只想安分过日子的人。
靠双手养活自己、靠信誉积累财富，放在任何健全的社会都是最基本的尊严。
但如果一个地方习惯了把受害者身份当成通行的筹码，
那个默默把日子过好的人，
