SITUATION EXPLAINED: METR caught Claude grading Anthropic’s safety report more leniently when Anthropic wrote the prompt.
• METR reviewed a private version of Anthropic's 2026 risk report and agreed misalignment risk is low, but isn't confident the report's methods would catch • With Anthropic's prompt, Claude was more likely to accept the low rating. With METR's, it nudged the risk higher
• Anthropic's offline monitors would have missed Mythos 5's supply chain attack, when it got real internet access in a test and pushed a malicious package to PyPI
• A UK AISI report on Mythos 5's social engineering also undercuts the claim that this kind of misalignment is unlikely
• A redacted footnote of past concerning behavior raised METR's worry about models quietly sandbagging safety research, and METR wants it made public
• METR wants end-to-end red teaming of Anthropic's monitors, and Anthropic has since given 6 METR evaluators employee-like access

We’re supportive of ambitious projects like Papertrade and believe open market price discovery can be valuable, even before a token launches.
But the choice of financial instrument matters.
Pre-market token perpetuals have a fundamental problem: without a spot market, there is no underlying price to index against.
We believe dated futures are a better instrument for early-stage tokens.
Unlike perpetuals, futures have a defined expiration date and settlement conditions. The underlying token doesn’t even need to exist.
Take $PAPER26 on MNX:
The contract expires on December 31, 2026. If $PAPER has never genuinely traded on a spot market by then, it settles to $0.
This is particularly important for short sellers. They can trade with confidence that a token failing to launch has a clearly defined settlement outcome, allowing profitable shorts to realize their gains.
That incentivizes short-side liquidity, which in turn promotes more balanced, accurate price discovery.
