It used to be that to stand out at work, we needed to be fast, polished, and agreeable. In the age of artificial intelligence, all of that gets turned on its head. Now, anyone can produce anything quickly with the appearance of poise and tact.
If everyone has access to the same actually make someone unforgettable?
In my latest contribution to @CNBCMakeIt I share 5 counterintuitive things to do just that.

Tempo is the new speed.
The leaders who define the next decade will be the ones who control rhythm.
When to push and when to pause.
When to ship and when to sit.
Speed is a setting, but tempo is a skill.

Here are five questions every leader should ask before approving an AI-generated recommendation:
What would I have done first?
Who's missing from this data?
What got smoothed out?
Where's the dissent?
If this is wrong, who pays?

The real danger of AI isn't a pending apocalypse. It's what is showing us in her @nytimes Feature with Marissa Meyer on "Why We Might Need a AI Wife"
Asking AI to list 3 things that make your daughter special. Forgoing the joy of thinking about your closest relationships to s what really spells the end of humanity. I've been on the brink of handing that power to AI but I learned how much there is to lose if we do. We must protect the original thinking in an era that is blithely ushering it.
In my research I have studied a growing phenomenon called AI psychosis as a new disease where people are losing contact with what's true inside your company or family due to their interactions with AI. I worry about an even more pervasive danger, where we lose touch with our own judgment, relationships, and sense of what matters, at work and at home. We need to keep asking ourselves these questions:
--How would I answer this question before turning to a screen?
--Do I actually need a tool to answer this?
--Could I get a better answer by talking to a person instead of a bot?

We're raising a generation of cognitive passengers where...
Every problem solved for them.
Every struggle smoothed.
Every answer pre-fetched.
The fix is tolerating their struggle long enough for thinking to happen.

MIT analyzed over 300 enterprise AI deployments and found that 95% are getting zero return.
Not low. Zero.
$40 billion invested, and almost none of it moves the P&L.
We're buying software to solve a thinking problem, and therein lies the problem.

Friction is the new intelligence and it lives in...
The rough draft.
The awkward pause.
The manual struggle.
In a world optimized to remove it, these are the last places original thought still lives.
Protect it.

Here's the most underrated skill in 2026:
The willingness to be the slowest person in the meeting.
Not because you can't move fast, but because you've noticed something the room hasn't.

If no one owns the call, no one learns from the failure.
AI didn't decide, the algorithm didn't decide, but someone in the room did.
Put your name on it.
Otherwise you're just laundering instead of leading.

Stanford tested 11 AI models on 12,000 prompts and found that AI affirmed users 49% more than humans do - even when those users were wrong, deceptive, or about to cause harm.
One interaction made people less willing to apologize, whihc means sycophancy is teaching us to never be wrong.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Discernment is the ability to choose what matters when everything sounds confident.
The world is drowning in plausible answers.
The premium has shifted to people who know which one to pick.

Microsoft surveyed 319 knowledge workers using AI.
The variable that predicted whether AI helped or hurt them?
Not technical skill.
Not the tool.
Self-confidence.
People who trusted themselves used AI well.
People who deferred to it got worse.
