I’m Gen X, and I’ve known for DECADES that the money I’ve paid into SS and Medicare wasn’t sitting in some account with my name on it. It was being spent because our government has never operated with any kind of fiscal responsibility it expects from everyone else.
I’ve tried DESPERATELY to elect good candidates at the federal level who warned about the coming insolvency of Social Security and were willing to actually do something about it. But those candidates weren’t elected because they weren’t dramatic enough, entertaining enough, or willing to play the political theater game.
Not only has my generation been robbed (we’re 10-15 years away from being eligible for SS) but now the generation that is still in charge wants my kids to pay even MORE when they’re struggling with an already higher cost of living that has been caused by… wait for it… our government’s debt and spending.
I’m tired, boss.

I don't understand what isn't translating here. I know it sucks that Social Security has been a scam. I feel terrible that older folks and I have paid into it our entire lives, and now likely won't receive it.
We have known SS would be insolvent for decades, but we kept voting nothing about it.
I DO NOT THINK GEN Z SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR OLDER PEOPLE'S SOCIAL SECURITY. PERIOD.
I don't feel "entitled" to their money even though I won't see a dime of what I paid in. WHY DO YOU!?
