It might be the case that only software engineers have enough inherit problem solving skill, persistence and pain management to use LLM's long term.

New on our Science Blog: designing protein binders against scorpion neurotoxins.
Scorpions sting about 1.2m people every year, and antivenoms are often costly or in short supply. Claude has made an early step toward finding new treatments.

I guess in hindsight it was obvious. People just wanted a Roblox game but targeted at people not 9 years old.

Watching Bid for Power being developed back in the day (1998 / 1999) really got me into coding. Cool to get this running in the browser using ioquake3, reworking the rendering, lighting and Kami's Lookout. Me and my son are having a blast playing it over lan with bots.

It's funny that everyone is moving to faster languages on the server but no one is addressing the elephant in the room. That React is the slowest framework ever created. It's propagation to every site has slowed down the web for everyone permanently.

If Claude models weren't so pretentious, I'd be less likely to curse at them. My curse ratio is very low on GPT vs. Claude models

People just now using a orchestrator thread (dots, bots) to talk to other threads. I've been doing that for like 4 months in Codex. It's been able to manage itself for a long time.

Finishing projects is still just as hard as ever. I updated both my Gumroad apps pretty significantly. Went pretty well, but I'm just sitting on them. I just don't have the motivation to follow up on all the stuff that isn't development right now.

As usual
@dhh As you know most apps are waiting for IO: Network, DB, file system, so it's no way this benchmark is correct for Go and Elixir

Just at the same time that we can write every piece of software we no longer need UI's. How annoying

Man DHH lost me. Dude is a straight clown. Kind of sad because I looked up to him for so long. But no sweat off my back.

This Rust benchmark is the most disingenuous thing I've ever seen. Makes me second guess everything he's ever said. I don't even give a shit about these languages either lmao.

Choose your fighter
Claude: Writes decent code, hallucinates and makes up shit
Codex: Writes horrible over engineered code but it's usually correct

I asked Opus 5.5 to rewrite a Node service in Go. It was like 2 express endpoints (200 LOC). It recreating Express from scratch added 5500 LOC.
This was on high and workflows. Cursor, Devin my own review bot and Codex reviewed the code. After asking wtf was going on this is what it said.

Is anyone seeing a trend
Mid size feature work going from a couple of hours to a day of prompting back and forth
Booking a flight goes from 5 minutes to an hour

There's just no world where most people are not using an open source desktop app with open weight llms in 5 years.

I think we should split the US in half or just let 50 states do whatever they want with no federal oversight (except military). Some of them use AI, builds datacenters has autonomous vehicles, the other does not. And we'll check on them in 10 years.
