Anthropic's S-1 just dropped. Three things the headlines will get wrong:
1. The cash. $112B in cash plus $19B in short-term investments. One of the strongest balance sheets ever taken public.
2. The "loss." The $80B net loss is a $72B non-cash accounting charge — the paper cost of Anthropic's own valuation rising. The actual operating loss was $693M on $16.3B of revenue in the first half of 2026. Near breakeven, growing ~14x year over year.
3. The compute bet. They've committed up to $120.5B to SpaceXAI through 2029 — roughly $3.1B a month at full delivery starting in December. Compute is their biggest cost, and they've locked it at scale: every new GPU generation makes that same spend buy more. The cost curve bends down from here.
