Beyond disgusting
Gordon House has turned into a street corner. Mikael Phillips cursing down the Speaker, shoving his own Opposition Leader out the way to get at McKenzie, and having to be physically held back by Tufton and others so it didn’t turn into a fight. Grown men who are supposed to represent the country behaving like this in the chamber, on camera, with children watching.

This isn’t debate. This is what Parliament has become after years of falling standards, no respect for the Chair, no respect for the House, no self-control. If your elected representatives can’t keep their hands and their mouths in check inside Gordon House, what exactly are they teaching the rest of us?

Why do airlines announce flight is full, limited bin space, need 45 pax to check hand luggage, and then a pax strolls on with 3 pieces? Why??

😂😂 I also find this mystifying but thought it was my ineptitude.
I can’t believe we’re two months away from 2027 and the easiest way to save something as a PDF is still to lie to your computer and tell it you’re about to print it.

It is true that the various development regulators do a poor job and readily allow the paving of permeable surfaces, regardless of the hoops.
@dmccaulay @NWCjam Sounds sus to me... red herring-ish. Years ago I was managing the construction of a trucking area in a distribution center, literally a shed and a paved surface. DI AMOUNT A HOOPS ME'D HAFFI GO THRU FI GET THE PERMIT!

This is a useful explanation of the UN process for anyone not familiar with it. Govts submit reports & civil society orgs are able to submit reports. A link to the JA govt report is provided here & a link to a civil society report was provided in an earlier thread. #Jamaica
Dear Minister,

You wrote that certain groups “have reported Jamaica to the UN regarding tough legislation sentencing for gun offenses.”

Given the framing, I believe it is important that I clarify for those who may read your post.

Jamaica has been a State Party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) since 1975. Under Article 40 of the Covenant, States Parties are required to submit periodic reports on the measures they have adopted to give effect to the rights in the Covenant, which the UN Human Rights Committee then reviews.

The last review (fourth periodic report) took place in 2016. Jamaica itself submitted the State report (CCPR/C/JAM/5, received 11 November 2025). You can read the Government’s submission here:
undocs.org/en/ccpr/c/jam/5

Civil society organisations submitted parallel reports providing additional information. This is the normal, established practice of the treaty-body process - not a complaint or adversarial action against Jamaica. Again, the Government participates fully by submitting its own report and engaging in dialogue with the Committee (which occurred on 26–27 October 2026). The Committee issues non-binding concluding observations and recommendations.

The process is the same one every State Party undergoes. Characterising civil society input as having “reported Jamaica to the UN” misrepresents how the ICCPR review system and other treaty bodies work.

I'm reluctant to drive at night now. Many complaints about this but it appears there's nothing to be done. So much that happens on our roads is just outright dangerous. #carlights #antiprogress @lucienforJesus
These bright car lights are genuinely horrific… an SUV came over the brow of a hill with a slight curve in the road…. I could see nothing… completely blinded. Is anyone doing any research into accidents caused by this? You’d hope so.

We simply won't have a good water system without investment. Also, we need to make provisions for social water, as well as protect watersheds and ground water replenishment, improve mgmt and reduce waste. There are a suite of needed actions.
Water is a need, not a want. It's a public good.

You can't call it a public good & then raise the price, no matter the reason. This suggestion would also almost certainly create unintended policy consequences.

I don't agree with this take.

Word. Heading home now.
Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

During my time as an environmental activist (starting in about 1989), whenever the PNP was in power, I was accused of being a 'dutty Labourite'. Then, when the JLP took power, I was accused of being a 'Kamrade'. #exhausting #ridiculous #tyaad

I guess this is pointless, but you don't understand why I might be cynical about this given the same regulatory REQUIREMENTS more than a decade ago? But I'm gone now.
@dmccaulay NB:

The Gleaner also included some details regarding the Scope of Works.

Don't think it was the most unjustified question in the universe but I will try to get in touch when I am back. Just hoping that the protected status of this place is remembered, because it has not always been.
@dmccaulaynd you are away. So I get that. The media may have left you out in the cold but being fair Diana, did you ask the right questions?

As I said the entire Post Cabinet Press Briefing is available for viewing and perhaps when you are back, you can shoot me a message re the scope. formation as yet but given your years of advocacy and the unfortunate cynical comment, I will share this with you to prevent any further misinformation while you are away.
