People crying over this are idiots. Clearly the RAM in a data center running full tilt 24/7/365 serving millions of people is better allocated than the RAM in your machine powering your Reddit browsing.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead.

Sam Altman was specifically discussing local AI inference on personal computers versus cloud needs, not general use like web browsing. Cloud servers average ~13-22% memory utilization per analyses of major providers, not full tilt 24/7.

Reddit is getting rid of logged out browsing. They want to require everyone to be logged in to access the site. They’re claiming it’s to protect against scraping which is hilarious because the site has already been scraped. End of an era. No more googling “question + Reddit”

It turns out, their work was riddled with major errors (potentially academic fraud as the errors almost always go one way)
The political architect was Dave Regan, a Union leader
He allegations that undermine his credibility (from his own side)
In other words the merits and motivations behind the billionaire tax are extremely suspect
But it fits so neatly into a narrative that was deceitfully crafted over the last decade that none of this will matter in the minds of many voters
