Quite a day yesterday, heading inside Manchester Town Hall for the first time in 8 years to see how the refurbishment is going - and all the way to the top of the tower too

My first job at the MEN was city centre reporter. Whether it be over the Gardens, the Olympic parade or the Christmas markets, it was always a pleasure to deal with him. Over the years I often bumped into him near the town hall for a chat. RIP Pat

Can’t quite believe the news that Pat Karney - a true champion of Manchester and someone I’ve known and leaned on for 30 years - is gone. He was just so fantastically irrepressible and friendly even when I when I didn’t share his passion of Christmas!

Heartbreaking. He brought so much joy to Manchester, and was the city's biggest champion. How can we do Christmas without you Pat? 😭manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-m…

Great to chat to Maisie Smith this week as she takes on her new theatre role in Little Shop of Horrors (check out the amazing pics of the stage set!), and the joy of being able to commute to work for a change now she has moved to Manchester.

In perhaps the most middle class scam ever, someone has tried to use my John Lewis credit card details to make a £350 purchase at M&S. Thankfully it was caught before going through but has involved considerable disruption. Anyone else experienced something like this?

Peering through the metal gates at the diggers chugging around a building site at the Etihad Stadium this week, it's hard to imagine now what is about to unfold on this patch of muddy land. But, Manchester, I've had a glimpse into the future this week - and you are not quite his project has in store.
