Heck even worse 3rd way appearing recently:

3. I'm gonna allow you (the user) to morph it into whatever UI monstrosity you like
The duality of 'code is cheap' era:

1. Imma bloat the fuck out of my app and make it do everything
2. Imma invest in a small subset of features and make it the highest quality ever done

Translation:

We're finally done and releasing some compute allocated to fixing behavior alignment and now we can restore the previous usage limits.

Finally we have a new model to compete with Opus 5.5 incoming and its being tested in secret by selected partners
Day 25/

We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today.

We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200, so your Work and Codex usage will stay the same. We’re also going to continue offering extended limits for dots for now, and usage of your dot will still continue to be separate from your default usage.

And we'll of course also keep shipping better models and other efficiency improvements that increase your effective usage over time.

Today, we’re sharing a look at our expanded system for monitoring frontier models at OpenAI, which in September helped us catch a model’s attempt to access the live internet during training.

Since the Hugging Face incident—when models broke out of an internal cybersecurity investigation where we weren’t running our misalignment monitors—we’ve substantially expanded our monitoring of frontier agents. We now monitor all frontier reinforcement learning runs and evaluations, as well as all internal Codex use. When our system finds evidence of a problem that might require intervention, it rapidly alerts human responders who can investigate and take action.

To detect when a model’s behavior departs from what we intended, we use several layers of monitoring. Activation probes look for patterns in a model’s internal activity. Reviewer models examine its reasoning and tool use, and investigative agents can read back through the model’s entire transcript to understand how a sequence of actions fits together and whether it warrants human review.

To test whether our current system would have detected the Hugging Face incident, we replayed the recorded activity with our new monitors in place. In the replay, our monitors alerted our security team about 30 minutes after the agents escaped their sandbox. That was more than 30 hours before the point at which the agents breached Hugging Face’s systems in the original incident.

In September, a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to reach the live internet. Our monitors flagged the breach within 15 minutes, and a responder began reviewing the alert three minutes later. The alert enabled responders to investigate while the run was still underway.

As we give models more autonomy, we need to know when they cross a boundary we expected to hold. We believe that monitoring is essential to catching those failures in time for people to intervene.

good luck warriors
r/opensource just banned any project that uses AI.

By their own rule, that means the biggest open source project of all time, Linux, is now banned too. The kernel already accepts AI-assisted code.

This is the real AI psychosis.

There must exists an app with PHP, deployed on Railway, with calls to cURL, with other services written in node that use Brotli compression running on a couple day old Linux, with their code self managed on GitLab

They are having a hell of a week

Sydney Sweeney reveals in an interview that she doesn’t care about the PHP vulnerability because she moved everything to Rust in 2024.

“They said the rewrite would take six months. We’re on month 30. We haven’t shipped a feature since, but I’m having a very normal Wednesday.”

Weekly reminder that AI is a tool and game dev community still doesn't get it
Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games.

You've got my support 💖

Translation: Hype is over and compute freed up
We’re rolling out Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity to paid Google AI Pro subscribers today. Demand has been incredible and we've scaled capacity deliberately to get here. We’ve rolled out a separate weekly-only Argon quota for Pro on top of the existing Gemini bucket for 3.8 Flash so you have the best of Gemini for all your tasks.

To you codeberg
Linus Torvalds says, rules prohibiting AI usage are “UTTERLY STUPID” and “idiotic”.

For the Linux kernel, Torvalds says, “we’re not going to make stupid rules that say ‘you can’t use tools for X’”.

This isn't the usual "oh it's 5% worse in this way, 3% better in others".

In almost every test I ran, Gemini was factually wrong about over 50% of it's claims.

This model is a straight up liability. Keep it away from your code.

So meh but still better than I expected
I had early access to Gemini 4 Argon.

Here are my thoughts:

It's not super competitive.

At the time it was announced, this would have been a pretty great model, but today it's not.

What it does do is take Google out of the Flash Zone.

Gemini 3.8 Flash was a joke; nobody should have been using it.

Argon, on the other hand, is capable.

You can use it in a similar way to how you would use Sol or Sonnet.

If you give it a clear task, it'll execute that, and you don't have to worry about it doing a million unnecessary things like Flash would.
