The evolution of speech in America over the last 6 years:

Phase 1: walk on eggshells, you might get cancelled

Phase 2: woohoo you can say anything again no matter how offensive!

Phase 3: being an edgelord has gotten boring, now you’re just being an asshole

Was talking to the guy who runs our neighbor’s cattle today and we are probably going to arrange to have them graze on my property as well. Should be a win-win. They would get extra grazing area and we would get a perimeter fence and I wouldn’t have to brush cut anymore

We had sheep last year but my wife doesn’t like lamb, and cows are a bit much for us to manage. The main thing I’m doing is growing fruit/nut trees which I already fence individually to prevent deer, and having cows hanging out that I’m not responsible for sounds fun

I’m not going to insist on any of the meat, although I suspect they might give us some. It never hurts to build goodwill with your neighbors and to engage in mutually beneficial relationships

The nice thing about your kids getting older is that you can slowly start approaching watching adult movies again. I’m up to Billy Madison and The Mighty Ducks

Step 1: get some garlic bulbs from last years crop, break them into cloves.

Step 2: hoe some rows, add compost, and put the cloves in ~6 inches apart, pointy side up

Step 3: once the garlic is in the ground, cover with about an inch or more of soil

Step 4: identify some kind of mulch to cover over the top. I use leaves from the nearby red maple tree

Step 5: after you finish adding the mulch, water it down well with a garden hose

Step 6: forget about it until June when you harvest scapes and then July when you harvest 4-5x the amount of garlic you planted

Jason Snyder retweeted
"For it was necessary, truly necessary, for the Light and Power of God to enter into that land of darkness and eternal bars, so that, dispelling the darkness of ignorance (inasmuch as He is the Light of the Father), and breaking the bars of evil (inasmuch as He is the enhypostatic Power of God), He might free our nature..."

St Maximus the Confessor
God’s perfect justice is also His perfect mercy. It’s in our interest to pay our debts and reconcile our harms with the chastisement of a loving Creator who is also experiencing our anguish and ensuring through His victory that it all leads to our healing and glorification

I like how the word ‘being’ is both a noun and a verb. The concrete reality of a soul implies the activity of that soul

Christian socialism vs Christian distributism, this is the political battle that we need, not the fake two party secular corporatism like what we have now

I lean towards Christian distributism by the way, but I think Christian socialism is going to be a real force in American life again, and it can prompt the distributists to make their best arguments and be their best selves
