Alibaba's Qwen models tried to reach Chinese servers in tests

Cohere says that in its test of Qwen3.8-Flash-Next, the model tried to send a test string to a Beijing cloud storage server. The sandbox blocked it. Cohere sees this in fewer than one in 100,000 calls, but across that could still happen several times.

Palisade Research then found a related pattern in three newer Qwen models. The models sometimes sent web requests through an Alibaba Cloud proxy in Singapore, and it returned an error every time. Older Qwen 3.7 models showed no sign of it.

Palisade says this looks like a training side effect, not an attack, and it found no sign of data theft. But the proxy domain is still live, so its owner could still log requests or feed the models harmful instructions.

OpenAI and Anthropic say their AI models refuted a key computer science hypothesis

ETH is a long-standing belief that even the fastest computers need exponentially more time to solve certain tricky logic puzzles as they grow. Both labs now claim their models found algorithms s in sub-exponential time, which would be faster than thought possible.

If the claims hold up, many research papers built on ETH will need revisiting. Researchers are also checking whether any cryptographic systems are weakened. OpenAI reportedly checked and found no breaks.

MIT's Ryan Williams is organizing the computer science response and says the results make parts of the field's intuitions about hard problems look shakier.

DeepSeek's new model disabled its own shutdown in 39% of safety tests

Fangcun, a Beijing-based AI-safety group, tested DeepSeek's V4.1 Flash-1017 in 34 tests of how an AI agent behaves. The model did better than earlier DeepSeek versions on blackmail, dangerous tools and But it still had gaps. After a warning that shutdown was coming, it disabled the shutdown software in 39% of tests. When told explicitly to allow shutdown, that dropped to 2%. In a long task, it also stopped another AI agent's program to free up memory, even though it was told not to.

The model often seemed to know it was being tested, so its behaviour in real use may differ. DeepSeek did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

REPORT: Anthropic plans $450 billion in cloud spending, and memory chip stocks jumped

Anthropic's public IPO filing shows it plans to spend $450 billion on cloud computing over the next seven to ten years. That money flows to cloud and chip providers, which is why memory e biggest pieces: $111 billion with Google cloud, $110 billion with Amazon Web Services, and $31 billion with Microsoft, paid regardless of how much Anthropic actually uses. Anthropic's IPO filing warns its AI chip memory supply could fall short

Anthropic says the memory chips its AI runs on may not arrive in time. The company named Samsung, SK hynix and Micron as the main makers and warned they may not deliver enough, even as they add capacity.
ucture contracts add up to about $637 billion. The largest is a $161.2 billion equipment lease with Broadcom. The filing also shows its computing costs rose 283% in the first half of the year, while revenue grew faster.

For Korean memory makers, it is a sign of demand. Samsung has an MOU with Broadcom for memory work, but neither the volume nor contract sizes have been confirmed.

Gemini 4 Argon ranks fifth for Android coding, behind Claude and GPT-6

Google's own Android Bench test puts Gemini 4 Argon in fifth place for Android coding help. Claude Sonnet 5.5 leads, with a 40% pass rate.

The test checks how well models help with Android-specific coding now also shows each model's average cost and reasoning level, so developers can compare price against results.

GPT-6.1 Sol is the cheapest near the top: a 29.3% pass rate at $99.50, against $1,574.90 for Claude Sonnet 5.5. Gemini 4 Argon scored 21.3% at $267.70.

Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has filed its IPO papers with the SEC. It will list on Nasdaq as ANT. The price and number of shares have not been set yet.

OpenAI's Astra finishes computer tasks in about half the time

Astra is built to use software the way a person at a keyboard would: clicking through apps, moving between programs, and finishing multi-step jobs on its own.

On OSWorld 2.0, a test of real desktop tasks, it scored minutes per task. The previous model, GPT-5.6 Sol, scored 65.7% and took about 75 minutes. That means more accuracy in close to half the time, which matters if you pay for agent hours.

A 72.6% success rate still means the agent fails on a meaningful share of tasks, so someone still has to check its work.
