Great collaborative study @GeisingerHealth @geisingercohs exploring PGx through our MyCode Community Health Initiative and helping to understand the impact on patient care.
We know genetics can influence how people respond to medications, but how often does that affect care in the real world?
In a recent study, researchers analyzed genomic and electronic health record data from more than 226,000 participants in Geisinger's MyCode to better understand the impact of genetics on adverse drug reactions.
Key findings:
🧬93.7% of patients carried at least one genetic variant that could affect medication response.
💊More than 44% were prescribed a medication that conflicted with their genetic risk profile.
👨👩👧👦Patients with a genetic mismatch were 1.4 times more likely to experience an adverse drug reaction.
📄These mismatches accounted for nearly 30% of adverse drug reactions observed.
Integrating pharmacogenomic testing into routine care could help identify medication risks earlier and prevent adverse drug reactions before a patient takes their first dose.
