We connected IntelliJ IDEA’s code intelligence to Claude Code and Codex, then tested the setup with Netflix.

The first public results are out.

Typical efficiency gains: 20–30%.
Best code-navigation case: ~65%.

These results come from two real codebases. The efficiency metric averages token savings and time savings.

Correctness stayed stable or improved.

Here’s what we actually built.

The code engine behind IntelliJ IDEA ran headlessly, giving agents access to its capabilities through a CLI backed by a daemon.

LSP alone wasn’t sufficient.

Agents needed a convenient way to invoke the tools. The backend also needed to stay running and keep the project index warm between calls.

The idea is straightforward.

An IDE has already mapped the structure of your code and its dependencies — including what’s inside compiled libraries.

An agent can use that knowledge instead of spending time and tokens reconstructing it.

But the most interesting finding was which models benefited most.

The strongest models saw the biggest gains.

Especially at higher reasoning effort.

In these experiments, more capable models were also better at taking advantage of code intelligence.

My takeaway: better models and better tools aren’t competing bets.

You don’t have to choose between investing in model intelligence and giving agents better access to your codebase.

The two can reinforce each other.

Huge thanks to @pbakker and the Netflix team for working with us on this!

The #UEFN #UnrealEngine Verse language support just shipped in @JetBrainsRider 2026.3 Early Access. Even AI agents would appreciate a stable tool with FindUsages and Rename refactoring exposed by Rider MCP. Has to be installed as a plugin. plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/34352-v…

Rider 2026.2 EAP 5 is out with something BIG 🔥

This build introduces bundled quality-check hooks for external AI agents, starting with Claude Code and Codex.

A hook is an automated step that runs at a specific point in the agent’s process. Here, Rider uses a 'PostToolUse' its a file, Rider automatically runs IDE-level validation before the agent continues.

This means agent-generated code is no longer just accepted as-is. Errors block the agent from treating the task as complete 🫷, while warnings and other findings are returned as feedback the agent can use to fix its own output ✅

Raise the bar on the quality of your AI-generated code with Rider 2026.2 EAP 5. Available from our website NOW.

AI-generated tests are only as good as the context you give the model.

And this is where I think IDEs have a big advantage.

I use JetBrains tools daily. ReSharper is always part of my .NET workflow, and one of the reasons I like these tools is that they already understand a lot e AI enters the picture.

That’s why I found this new Rider EAP feature interesting.

In Rider 2026.2 EAP, JetBrains is introducing a bundled AI agent skill called finding-tests.

@jetbrains says this approach can reduce token consumption by up to 50% in their internal benchmarks, mostly using Claude. That means lower AI costs, or more useful work from the AI quota you already have.

The idea is simple: instead of asking an AI agent to blindly search your codebase and guess where a test should go, Rider runs dotCover coverage analysis to map the existing tests around the C# code you’re working on.

It can then point the agent to a relevant test file, where it can read nearby tests and follow the project’s existing style.

That matters because most real-world .NET projects already have a testing style.

Maybe you use xUnit fixtures.
Maybe you have custom builders.
Maybe your tests follow a very specific naming convention.
Maybe there’s already a test class nearby that the AI should extend instead of inventing something new.

The more the AI has to discover this on its own, the more tokens you burn. And the more likely it is to produce something that technically compiles, but doesn’t really fit your project.

The trade-off is that Rider has to run the tests needed for dotCover to build this map. If you enable it for an entire solution, that means running the existing tests across that solution.

On a small project, that might be around 30 seconds. On a large enterprise solution, it can be much longer. So this won’t be the right default for everyone. You can disable the skill globally or per project.

Also, obvious but important: AI-generated tests still need review. Tests can introduce bad assumptions, weak assertions, or weird side effects. Don’t commit them just because they were generated.

The EAP is free to try, even without the dotUltimate license normally required for dotCover inside Rider.

Worth testing if you care about better AI-generated tests, lower AI costs, and IDE-native context.

This is huge! Up until now, Visual Studio seemed to be locked to Copilot agent exclusively. We wanna change that and bring any ACP-compatible agent to it. First is Junie, to run the proof-of-concept and validate your interest (fill in the survey).
ReSharper 2026.2 EAP 1 is out with some Big News!

𝗖# 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗦 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻.

In March, this finally changed 👇

What's the problem with C# in VS Code?

You open your .NET solution in VS Code, Cursor, or another lightweight editor.

You get basic syntax highlighting. Some IntelliSense. Maybe a few al productivity? That's been missing.

Here is what I kept running into:

• Weak code analysis that misses real issues
• Limited refactoring support
• Limited Solution Explorer
• No reliable navigation to decompiled sources
• No built-in unit test runner
• AI-generated code with no quality layer on top

For years, the only real options were:
❌ Use a full IDE like Visual Studio or Rider
❌ Piece together multiple VS Code extensions and hope they work

This changed in March.

JetBrains officially released 𝗥𝗲𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗿 for VS Code, Cursor, and Google Antigravity: jetbrains.com/resharper/?pro…

This is the same ReSharper engine that millions of developers have trusted in Visual Studio for 20+ years, now running in VS Code, Cursor, and Google Antigravity.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁: 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲, 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗯𝗯𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀.

Here is what made a real difference for me:

1️⃣ Professional-grade code analysis
↳ Real-time inspections and quick-fixes for C#, Razor, Blazor, and XAML. It catches issues that basic extensions completely miss.

2️⃣ Smart coding assistance
↳ Context-aware completion, auto-imports, live templates, and inline documentation that go way beyond what a standard editor offers.

3️⃣ Solution Explorer inside VS Code
↳ A central hub for managing files, folders, NuGet packages, and projects across your entire solution. Just like in Rider or Visual Studio.

4️⃣ Refactoring you can trust
↳ Rename works across your whole solution while safely handling conflicts and references. No more search-and-replace guessing.

5️⃣ Fast navigation to any source
↳ Jump to symbols, usages, files, and types. When source code is not available, ReSharper decompiles assemblies and takes you directly to the declaration.

6️⃣ Built-in unit testing
↳ Run and manage tests for NUnit, xUnit .net, and MSTest directly in your editor with easy navigation to failing tests.

The next major area of focus for ReSharper for VS Code is debugging support.

JetBrains is actively working on support for launching debugging sessions and attaching to processes in .NET and .NET Framework applications.

👉 You can install ReSharper in the Extensions view of your editor (VS Code, Cursor, and Google Antigravity)
