This is a seriously weird take.
I’m in the group that thinks the welfare bill needs to come down.
But child DLA is primarily paid to the most disabled.
What exactly is the plan for getting kids with fragile x or severe Down syndrome into full time, unsupported work?

Look at this chart 👇
Many if not most of the children on DLA will go onto PIP.
Around half of children who get DLA become NEETs.
There’s a clear path from child DLA to PIP to a lifetime on benefits.
We must change this.

From the comments (both sides) it’s remarkable how few people understood the AirBnB business model always relied on undercutting hotels by avoiding fixed costs hotels have to bear. Once you have to cover those costs it’s neither as profitable for the host nor cheap for the guest
Running the dishwasher and taking the trash out isn't hard. It's the courteous thing to do. Neither is allowed under this change. FWIW, running the dishwasher is so it's finished by the time the cleaners arrive and they can put things away. Don't be upset when you can't check in early, when there are clean dishes in the dishwasher the next time you stay somewhere, or when the cleaning fee (now part of the total cost) goes up because of this.

The interesting stats here are not necessarily the ones showing even MAGA supporters are more favourable to Ukraine than Russia, but the ones showing they think Trump is more pro Ukraine then pro Russia. Extreme confirmation bias

Almost everyone underestimates the impact of disabilities on day-to-day stuff.
Getting dressed, for example. Showering. Making a sandwich. Going to the doctors. Getting on a bus. Food shopping. These things can be horribly painful, time-consuming and exhausting.
And that's for the more mobile among us with less severe disabilities. I'm someone who can do wheelchair half marathons without really batting an eye, but showering, dressing and going out to socialise is seriously hard work.
A few hours socialising can take the rest of the day (or longer) to prepare for and is sure to have a severe backlash the next day.
Many if not most disabled people have more bad days than good. On bad days there might be no chance of doing any of these things at all. People don't see that for the straightforward reason that we're not there.
It's one of of the main reasons disabled people tend to withdraw from social life and shed social capital. It's one of the main factors contributing to the isolation of disabled people.
I'm not complaining, this is just how things are. But think about how hard it is for @factualmama to do a simple thing like make apple crumble for pure pleasure, the compromises she has to make and the price she has to pay.
People are fond of saying that not all disabilities are visible and of course that's true. But also most of the ways disabilities really suck are invisible too.

This is how stupid my chronic disabilities are. I've just made an apple crumble. How long should it take? I didn't peel the apples because I can't. I did chips them up though. It's taken me just over an hour to chop & put a crumble on top. The crumble topping was made...

“For the past two years thousands of people have died every week for nothing."
Not for nothing. For their home and their freedom and for their families back in Kyiv. And on the Russian side, for the money and the power craved by old men.
Not for nothing. For their home and their freedom and for their families back in Kyiv. And on the Russian side, for the money and the power craved by old men.
Here’s what @elonmusk and others keep missing: Russia can end this war by stopping its invasion. Ukraine can’t end it by surrendering without losing its freedom.
Telling Ukrainians to stop defending themselves because fighting costs lives rewards the country killing them.
If your “solution” demands courage from the invaded and nothing from the invader, that’s peak weakness. And you need to stop pretending to be some alpha

There’s a huge consumer market for this. Satellite internet that doesn’t feel like an option only for wannabe tech-bros and people trying to prove their alt creds would completely shift the tech market
🇵🇱 NEW: Poland is preparing to develop its own alternative to Elon Musk’s Starlink, potentially in cooperation with other European countries.
Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk revealed today that:
• Initial offers have already been received.
• Funding has been secured, er.
• The proposed technical architecture is being planned.
• A formal project announcement could come within the next few months.
The system would initially serve Poland’s military, followed by security services, government institutions and potentially the wider European market.
The announcement comes amid controversy over restrictions on Starlink and Starshield services used by Ukraine.
Tomczyk argued that Poland cannot remain dependent on a single individual controlling critical communications infrastructure.
Importantly, the project remains in the planning stage. No operational satellite network or final contract has been announced.

My son is 16, regularly hospitalised & deeply embarrassed being examined in front of a woman. A female nurse did his MRSA swab (groin) last time he was hospitalised; he was mortified. Tonia’s point is not everyone is comfortable with the same thing and we need to accommodate all
I’m sorry you’ll resign but I was in a mixed sex emergency ward with my mother as she had no where to go and tbh I was more concerned about the trans person there because of how my mother would have reacted than for them.I stayed there to make sure all was ok. Think of everyone!

Laws set norms. Making it clear it isn’t normal, actually, to get your jollies watching women being strangled is a good thing that might mean fewer men committing real world sexual assault so the prisons will be less full
"Those found to be in possession of images depicting strangulation, suffocation or penetrative sexual activity between certain relatives could face up to two years' imprisonment."
Let me get this straight.
Britain's prisons are so full that we're systematically releasing hundreds of violent criminals early, many of which go on to immediately re-offend.
And the government is now planning to lock people up (for 2 years!) for watching videos that are widely available in the US/EU and consumed by a large share of the population (including many women).
You really don't hate politicians enough.

Twice we’ve looked at moving to Starlink for internet and decided not to, specifically because of Musk’s unstable politics. Not some sort of grandstanding protest, but simply because I consider internet important and don’t want to get it from a company this sketchy
Hey, @elonmusk, big man, are you playing politics with your products again?
As your European customers, we are watching you.

Even half the likes are clearly scam / bot accounts. Can someone explain how that works please? Why is there one set of bots furiously hitting like and another finding ever more creative ways to call me dumb in the replies? How does that make money for anyone? What’s the purpose?

If any HUGE celebrities would like to hideously insult, demean or dismiss the absolutely tiny epilepsy charity I work with (@MedcanFamily) please go for it.
It’s proven pretty impossible to get anyone to pay attention to epilepsy any other way.
