This idea of rotational presidency exists to secure the stability of the Nigerian polity.
We should keep it.
Power should remain in the South till 2031 when the presidency should then return to the North.
I have made this point several times and it bears restating.
We can and useful candidate who merits the job of the President anytime either from the North or the South.
That is how to take care of merit in our circumstances.

See a clip from past public iterations on the subject.

We had a compelling conversation on @InsideSources01 @channelstv on Friday with Prof Sola Adeyeye, a forthright Nigerian Senator between 2011-2019.

Among several things we spoke about he argued on the need for a real engagement with Nigerians during electioneering seasons such ed some of our past struggles when we were in the US marshalling the pro-democracy agenda.

Prof is now one of the leaders of the PBAT 2027 campaign. It's not an edition you want to miss. See the full conversation on

A RESPONSE TO MR. BABACHIR LAWAL'S FALSEHOODS AGAINST PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON

I have watched the video in which former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, made a string of allegations against former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. Ordinarily, such fabrications would not deserve a response.

But I served as the Vice President's spokesperson. I was in the room where many of these decisions were taken. And the allegations touch directly on the staff of the Office of the Vice President — of which I was a part. For the sake of the record, facts only must be stated.

1. On the claim that President Buhari considered Osinbajo's 2022 aspiration "immoral":
This is false.
On at least four separate occasions, President Buhari personally offered to support the Vice President, telling him plainly: "If I don't support you, who will I support?"

He was consistent. During the APC presidential primaries in 2022, while campaigns were underway, President Buhari openly commended Vice President Osinbajo at a Federal Executive Council meeting for the dignified, issues-based manner in which he was conducting his campaign across the country. He spoke in a laudatory tone. The entire Council witnessed it.

That is not a President who found Osinbajo's ambition distasteful. That is a President who broached it , encouraged and applauded it.

2. On the so-called memo of 20+ staff names:

Mr. Lawal's claim that Osinbajo wrote a memo containing over 20 staff names, which was sat on by the President's Chief of Staff, and which he, Mr. Lawal, then took to President Buhari, is a complete fabrication. There was no such memo.
Anyone who knew President Buhari knows he does not engage in the kind of snide ethnic profiling Mr. Lawal attributed to him — "BD, these are all Yorubas." That language and that conduct are alien to President Buhari.

The procedure was simple and verifiable: Prof. Osinbajo always had direct access to the President. He took his memos directly to the President, obtained approval, and passed the approved memo to (his own Chief of Staff), Mr. Ade Ipaye, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President who then communicated it to the relevant agencies for action. At no stage did this require the SGF, except for the subsequent issuance of appointment letters for staff.

Mr. Lawal's timeline also collapses. He claimed the memo was delayed for three months. I resumed in the Office of the Vice President in June 2015, alongside several other colleagues. So did many of those whose names he now invents. There was no three-month delay. To those of us who were there, this story is pure fiction.

What actually happened in 2015 is that Osinbajo took different batches of memos to the President at different times for different categories of staff as the office was being set up and as government policies evolved. That is standard practice. There was never a single, bloated, religiously and ethnically-charged list. It is quite simply incredible that Mr Lawal would create such falsehood. It is also noteworthy that by the time a good number of the appointments were made Mr Lawal had been sacked by President Buhari ( not Osinbajo) for corrupt practices.

3. On the composition of Osinbajo's staff — the church claim:

The claim that Osinbajo appointed people because they were church members is false and is easily disproved by the staff list itself. The Office was one of the most inclusive, pan-Nigerian offices in that government — North, South, East, West, Christian and Muslim.

To suggest a narrow church agenda is not only to ignore the facts , but to pursue a curious and worrying vendetta.

Let the facts speak:

The most senior official in the Office — the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President — was Mr. Ade Ipaye, a Muslim and a distinguished lawyer.

Three of his four Special Advisers were Muslims, including two Northerners: Mrs. Maryam Uwais, Special Adviser on Social Investment, and Dr. Ahmad Zakari,...

4. On Dr. Okey Enelamah:
Mr. Lawal claimed the pastor who took over Prof. Osinbajo's RCCG parish was made minister because of Osinbajo. The pastor in question is Dr. Okey Enelamah.

The truth: Dr. Enelamah at the time of his appointment headed one of Africa’s largest private equity firms . He was proposed by two individuals in the financial services industry and it was President Buhari's Chief of Staff, the late Mallam Abba Kyari who informed Prof. Osinbajo that the President wanted to appoint Enelamah. Dr. Enelamah is alive and well. He can confirm these facts.

I recall this vividly because when speculations were rife that Osinbajo had brought Enelamah, I asked the Vice President directly. It was then he told me how Kyari had informed him of the President's decision. I had assumed, like many others, that because Enelamah was close to Osinbajo, he must have nominated him. He did not.

5. On board appointments as Acting President:

When Prof. Osinbajo acted as President, he was constitutionally required to review lists of board nominees before transmission for confirmation. Where changes were made, they were strictly on grounds of compliance with the law — federal character, age, qualification, or professional requirements. President Buhari was fully briefed upon his return and had no issue with those corrections. Due process, not personal preference, guided those decisions.

Conclusion

I understand that Mr. Lawal may still be reeling from the pains of his removal as SGF. It is noteworthy that before the President asked Prof
Osinbajo to chair the investigation into the allegations against Mr. Lawal, the Senate and the Attorney-General’s report had indicted him on the same allegations. It is also noteworthy that it was he himself who inadvertently provided the evidence to the investigation panel that implicated him.

But personal grievance cannot justify the manufacture of falsehoods against a man who served with integrity.

Prof. Osinbajo served President Buhari loyally for eight years, without blemish, with an inclusive team that reflected the best of Nigeria. The records are there for anyone who cares to check.

Fair is fair, if the discount that the FG is offering regarding fuel price for a month is a good thing at all, then it's @atiku that made it happen. Let’s be clear about it, whether we like the former VP or not.
And the larger point is that democracy is alive and winning: as ts voice, few months to election, the incumbent may now be sitting up pretty fairly!

Oh no, Mr. Batten, it's a TV show, it is better to show your face.
But yes, you are welcome to give your own side of the story. Come to our studio in New York.

And why wait till Monday? @InsideSources01 on @channelstv
goes on air later tonight- 6pm Nigerian time and you can can also come later by reaching out to us right here on X or by email- Empowered42@icloud.com & we can set up a convenient time.

That way, you can respond to some documentary material, already on the table, such as one indicating a conviction for domestic abuse some years ago.

And there are other questions actually.

Fair is fair. Let us hear your own side of the story.

Ball in your court.
STATEMENT FROM DR. KARL VON BATTEN RE: CASE NO. 1:26-cv-03209

This is Dr. Von Batten. I have reviewed the latest attack video, and while I am not excusing what was broadcast, I am prepared to consider the possibility that Mr. Laolu Akande (@akandeoj) and Channels Television (@channelstv) were dragged into repeating false information by the Nigerian Presidency (@OfficialABAT), @OfficialAPCNg, or others, without first independently verifying it. For that reason, I am giving Mr. Akande and Channels an opportunity to redeem themselves and demonstrate that they are prepared to practice true journalism.

I will grant Mr. Akande an in-person, off-camera interview in Washington, D.C., or New York. I will provide access to the underlying evidence, including my academic records and degrees, presidential appointment documentation, and other documents directly relevant to the claims made about me. I will also authorize Columbia University, A.T. Still University, the University of Oxford, and other relevant institutions to verify the information directly. Ask the difficult questions. Examine the documents. Contact the institutions. Verify everything independently.

Mr. Akande has until Monday, September 21, at 12:00 noon ET to accept this offer by contacting my assistant and arranging the interview. Decline the opportunity if you choose. But if you continue publishing or broadcasting these allegations after being offered direct access to the subject, the underlying documents, and independent institutional verification, you should be prepared to explain in US federal court why you chose not to examine that evidence.

Yes indeed, Bro. Dotun was a media icon, and a most kind-hearted human being with a heart of gold!

His sudden transition shocks us all!

Mr. Dotun Oladipo used his platform Eagle Online to advance nation building, support patriotic statecraft and raise awareness on the major issues of the day. His work as GOCOP President was also notable.

He was supportive of our work while i was in the Villa as a spokesperson, and afterwards he maintained a friendship and cordiality that was both amiable and professional.

I was personally blessed by my association with this rare gentleman who prided honour and exemplified outstanding human decency in his relationships.

Nigeria just lost a patriotic gentleman, journalist and humanist!

We condole with the family, relatives, friends and associates of Mr. Dotun Oladipo, publisher of Eagle Online.

May God grant especially his immediate family the fortitude to bear this loss and may his memory remain blessed.
DOTUN OLADIPO: A JOURNALISM ICON TAKEN TOO SOON

By Ismail Omipidan

We all know that death is inevitable. But some deaths raise more questions than answers.

They say regular exercise keeps us fit. I know the late Dotun Oladipo did a lot of that. In fact, a senior colleague told th his wife as by 11am yesterday. Yet, reports say he later died of a heart attack.

If he had not been exercising, some of us would have blamed it on a lack of fitness. The point I am making is simple-let us all live our lives the best way we can. When it is time to go, no power can stop it. And when the time has not come, no mortal can hasten it. It will come when it must.

If death were deliberately selective, Oga Dotun should not have been the one to go yesterday, barely a year after surviving a near-death experience.

Only about a year ago, I read his account of how he and his family escaped the Otedola Bridge tanker fire in which he lost his mechanic. Anyone who read that piece would see the hand of God at work. He escaped because that was not his appointed time.

Who would have thought that just a year after enjoying that rare grace, he would be gone? But this is where God’s power is superior to ours. Forget those who claim to have power over life and death. Whatever they do is mere coincidence. Not even a leaf falls from a tree without the knowledge and permission of God, our Creator, Protector, and Sustainer.

Oga Dotun was a very kind and accommodating senior in the journalism profession.

Our paths first crossed at The Sun in my early years there, when he was our Online Consultant. We met again at the Journalists’ Hangout Table at TVC. I only got to know about six years ago that he is from Osun State, like me. He was very supportive during my time as Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Osun State.

We last spoke last Saturday, reviewing the August 15 Osun governorship election and its outcome.

Egbon, your counsel on The Sun matter is well noted, and I promise you I will follow it.

Adieu, my good Egbon.
May Allah grant your wife, children, and the rest of the family the courage and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
