Now, I’ve been having fun with the PR nightmare afflicting Bradley Lord’s post sharing Toto’s internal email to the whole team, but I feel like there’s a few things to address:
1. This was never about criticizing Kimi, but rather people addressing Merc’s own operational execution for the season.
2. This was an ill-timed post to make by Lord. It would be more appropriate to make it once the team also won the WCC. Because, while it’s pretty much in the bag, it jumped the gun. (Same for Toto’s email itself).
3. I can only conclude that this is because the WDC being clinched is not generating enough traction organically and most people are talking about Ferrari, Ocon, or other stuff to equal amount as the WDC itself.
4. F1/FOM published an article denoting all of George Russell’s issues and bad luck, and it’s literally a pop-up on the app and website.

This was, in all honesty, a very POOR execution of “executive communication” by not only the deputy TP but the person in charge of commercial communication, to the point where a crisis communication senior leader is offering criticism in the same post.

It’s a bit of a good symbolism to how Merc have operated lately. But you cannot continue to bury your head in the ground and ignore criticism while acting like you welcome it.
