We are proud to announce our series A(irplane).
I wish I could share the full extent of my excitement for the incredible progress we've made, but there are not enough characters in the world.
More details on our models and algorithms to come!

We’ve spent the past year developing new primitives for GPUs. We believe this enables new algorithms to change how machines learn, open new markets, and dramatically reshape AI’s cost structure.
We have raised a $1 billion Series A, co-led by Index and Lux.

Today, we are introducing Fern: our first model that supports up to 10M tokens in context window!🌿
You could put an entire repository (or repositories!) in the context, continue to work on problems for days without hitting compaction limits or use it to consolidate other agents’ works.

As always, we have a lot more work to do but wanted to give you the update. Excited hear how you would use a 10M token context window.

Introducing Fern, Mirendil’s first model: pretrained from scratch, with up to 10M tokens of context!
That’s ~0.5M lines of code (roughly Megatron-LM scale) or days of an agent’s work, all in context at once.
Its first version, Fern 0.1, had a short round of post-training 🚢

FULL INTERVIEW: Flapping Airplanes just raised a $1B Series A after rebuilding the GPU stack from scratch. Co-founder Aidan Smith says they don’t even use Torch, NCCL or CUDA’s normal runtime. One kernel on one B200 can now train a model, serve inference and play Doom at the same hiel Fellow and 3-year Neuralink alum, co-founded @flappyairplanes. He joined @sophiadew and @theojaffee to break down why AI needs to learn more like the brain, how they rebuilt the GPU stack, and who they hire:
00:30 where the name Flapping Airplanes comes from
02:04 why they bet on data efficiency
03:07 what Neuralink taught him about AI
04:27 how slow your brain actually is
06:06 why not just emulate the whole brain
08:40 why they rebuilt the GPU stack from scratch
10:33 compute overhang and safety
12:56 can a neo lab win if the big labs hit RSI first
14:27 what ML research looks like when no one writes code
15:40 why DNA, robotics and trading are data-starved
18:41 how they hire in the AI talent wars
21:17 the models they might ship first

i asked GPT 6 Pro and Fable 5.1 to rank all discoveries in the last three years
🔵 for Human discovered
🔴 for AI discovered (before October 6th)
🟢 for AI discovered from OpenAI/math repo
81% of them have been released today. wtf

In 12 weeks, we built a research facility that is run entirely by AI.
AI designs, executes, and observes experiments end-to-end across biology, chemistry, and materials science.
We’re introducing SciUniverse: a benchmark that measures AI’s ability to do real-world scientific research.

as far as founders go, hooman is heavy metal. literally. super proud of him and the team!
Today we're announcing $75M to build Solcoa One, our 500-tonne rare earth metallization plant in Nevada.
At Solcoa, we believe rare earths are the foundation of America's next great industrial era. An era we intend to win on the merits, with superior American technology.

We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics.
The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.
The problem scription of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

about a year ago gabe and I went on a long walk and he couldn't defend why he hadn't started a company yet. the writing was on the wall.
so glad he has finally taken the leap!
so glad he has finally taken the leap!
also so excited to finally go founders mode, will be very fun to figure out future of work in public
it was always obvious that i would start a company. been waiting for a trillion dollar opportunity so i wouldn't commit too early and get stuck on things that don't matter

Thirty years ago, we built Index around one conviction: great founders can come from anywhere, and our job is to find them early and stay with them.
Today we're announcing new funds — $3.5B across seed, venture, and growth.
The best is yet to come.
