Today at @ConfedExpo my message was simple — together we have achieved so much, but we have the ambition to do much more.

A new Maternity Early Warning Score (MEWS) to be rolled out across the NHS.
Derived from real data from >1000 pregnancies, it used statistical modelling to set appropriate thresholds for vital signs, reducing unnecessary alerts.

🧵🪡 My time at #Quality2024 Forum in London was filled with thought-provoking & energizing discussions among some of the most inspiring folks in #healthcare. TY @TheIHI & @bmj_company for deeming me worthy of delivering a keynote (and on one of my favorite topics, no less!)

Lack of psychological safety is linked to the productivity challenge. There’s massive waste in healthcare yet even the most senior staff are scared to take risks or take things out under the headlights of pressure to deliver short term say #Quality2024 @donberwick @AmyCEdmondson

Also wondering about the impact of using the term ‘failure’ and this work from @StevenShorrock on setting language/taxonomies to neutral humanisticsystems.com/2023/11/11/set…
Is linear, complex and intelligent a better categorisation? Failing to de-ice a plane is not human error nor basic. It is a symptom of a complex system problem. Struggling to see the benefit of categorising failure as basic #Quality2024
