You cannot buy gas one cup at a time. Many families in Uganda buy charcoal per day because they earn per day. Although gas should be a preferred choice, the choice is not available to people like that.
Refilling a 14-kg gas cylinder costs roughly 120k, yet some people insist on using charcoal at 50k per bag that lasts at most two months. I have cooked with this cylinder for nearly two years without a refill.

Hostility to marriage aside, the idea that a class of conflict resolution that targets the people most likely to be victims of IPV is sad. IPV doesn't happen because of conflict, it happens because patriachy creates a power dynamic in marriage where violece by men is accepted.
Why are we so hostile to the institution of marriage?? Noted this is a disturbing trend that's popular in the pseudo- feminism spaces. If anything her masterclass might have sessions on addressing conflict in marriage, something we need to counter intimate partner violence. Let the woman be

Reflecting on recentring economic, social and cultural rights (ESCRs) and the right to development in Eastern Africa, at the Reimagining the Future of Human Rights in Africa: Eastern Africa Convening taking place in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
ISER’s ED @anabwowe highlighted the anda with high fuel prices, inflation and depreciation of the shilling, and she linked this to statements by the Secretary to the Treasury that all Uganda’s economic fundamentals are in good place; that Uganda 's economy is growing steadily and that the IMF projects Uganda to be the fastest growing economy in the region in 2027 at 9.9%.
She argued that economic development should not be measured by only growth and investments but also by whether people can enjoy their ESCRs; whether communities benefit from their natural resources citing the discovery of oil in Uganda and the vast minerals in DR Congo; whether development protects the environment and preserves human dignity.
She also noted that the African Charter which establishes the rights and principles against which states' conduct can be assessed, and Agenda 2063 which provides a shared continental vision for development ask whether the region’s development is not only generating economic growth; but also protecting rights, distributing benefits fairly, safeguarding communities and the environment.
On significant gaps facing the region, @anabwowe noted the debt stress that has turned into a human rights crisis as countries are spending more on servicing debt than on health, education and social protection combined. This situation triggered regressive taxes like VAT that impact the poor more, and austerity measures that has led to underfunding of the above social services and paved way for privatization leaving access to ability to pay thus driving inequality.
She re-echoed calls for debt transparency and oversight to ensure that sovereign borrowing yields public benefits, progressive taxation and curbing Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) by implementation of the Anti-IFF’s Policy Tracker to halt billions of dollars lost annually to corporate evasion.

We do not socially exclude people like this enough. I blame her family and friends for tolerating her.
I genuinely feel for Irene Ntale and every woman going through fertility struggles. My heart goes out to them, and nothing about what I said was meant to ridicule, dismiss or blame anyone for their struggles. This topic is equally as close to my heart as someone who is yet to have a blessing of a child.
My point was simple: sometimes, sharing your most vulnerable moments with the internet exposes you to people who have no intention of understanding you. They will take your tears, turn them into memes, twist your words and create narratives that serve their own interests. And before you know it, a video of you crying is a sticker in comments and whatsapp groups.
Perhaps my tone came across as more energetic than some expected, but we need to learn to separate delivery from intention. Not everyone who speaks passionately is being insensitive, and not everyone who says “I feel bad” is being sarcastic.
What’s even more interesting is how quickly people can condemn others for supposedly lacking empathy while overlooking how easily they themselves can misrepresent someone’s words. Sometimes, the very behaviour we’re criticising is the behaviour we’re participating in.
I said what I said out of concern, not cruelty. You can disagree with my perspective, but please disagree with what I actually said, not a version of it you’ve created to suit a particular narrative.
The internet is full of people looking for engagement, validation and their next viral moment. Don’t give a monkey a gun and expect it to understand the responsibility that comes with it.
Irene deserves compassion. Every woman facing these struggles deserves compassion. And perhaps we all need to be a little more careful about what we expose to an audience that doesn’t always have our best interests at heart.
