everybody’s going to build their own software just like everyone builds their own houses and cars

@_coenen If I had a robot to build a house, I would build my own house. Bad analogy, bro.

@JAS0Nduncan just sayin, i don’t think *most people* would - they’d have it built by people who build houses with robots 🤷‍♂️

@_coenen9 of my favorite apps over the past 24 hours, all either as good or almost as good, spent maybe $1,000 in tokens but yeah

And these could easily be shared or opened sourced in a shared capacity so could be free for a lot of people

If I could also build a house in natural language in 45 minutes at .01% the cost of buying then yeah everyone would definitely build their own house 😂

@dabit3 remember that you're not a representative sample! In your scenario, I think *most* people would still buy houses from people who build houses (using bots), because time is finite! people will always be happy to trade money for attention, expertise, and liability

@aarondfrancis this is x dot com, the everything app, so there’s not a lot of room for nuance, but here goes:

there will be *tons* of dynamic software interfaces and tools created by AI for everyday people to use, but most people won’t directly create their own tools. this distinction matters

@_coenen Software isn't something that will need to be built, imagine just a seamless evolving operating system, I guess one big database in the background, without needing an app for this an app for that, everything integrated according to your needs and can take past history

@_coenen Everyone is going to build their own software and video games. Just like people build their own Legos.

@GravityAnalyti1 but you realize people don’t *make* legos, they buy them and assemble them. not trying to be pedantic, i think that distinction is very important!

@_coenen A bit different because software was always a craft not an industrial product. (Only the physical medium itself was an industrial product).
It’s more like pottery than cars.
So probably not "everyone", but 1 billion apps and sites creators? Totally possible.

@juliendorrait's a twitter hot take so no subtlety 😅
I think it really depends on your definition of "software" is... like sure everyone will have bots that help stitch together information and work in their lives, but nobody will build their own web browser

people in this space need to think long and hard about how time is finite, and how people are happy to trade money for expertise (and liability)

@_coenen People can't even do very simple things like cook their own meals half the time, and even those who can frequently prefer someone else do it

@_coenen Nah... WAY easier for people to build software when A) there's zero additional raw material requirements and B) they don't even realize they're building software.

There won't be "software" anymore only "problems computers can solve for me"

@_coenenit's totally the same to go:

"Gippity, do X, no mistakes, pls, I will tip you 200$"

and

.....going and buying all the materials, components to build a house and just. ...doing it?

It's like the least comparable thing ever.

You know what's a great comparison? 3D printers.
