First Lady Melania Trump announced that she helped secure a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky to create a safe pathway for humanitarian aid and facilitate the evacuations of elderly residents.
Mrs. Trump worked directly with Ukrainian and Russian leadership as the “exclusive intermediary” and initiated discussions to secure the terms of the ceasefire agreement, which begins on October 29, according to a press release from the First Lady’s office.
“The people of Oleshky have limited electricity, live amid mined roads, and endure regular military attacks. It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible," Trump said in a statement.

I am grateful for this opportunity to shed more light on the humanitarian catastrophe in the Kherson region and Russian war crimes in the occupied territories (and elsewhere in Ukraine.)

Today, together with 🇳🇴Ambassador @NorwayAmbUSA Anniken Huitfeldt, we co-hosted a briefing on the humanitarian catastrophe in #Oleshky and surrounding villages in the temporarily occupied Kherson region, for diplomats, U.S. Department of State representatives, human rights sts, and think tanks.
Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, 25,000 people lived in Oleshky. Today, only around 2,000 remain, including 35 children. For years, they have lived without electricity, gas, heating, or water supply. No food has been officially delivered since May 26, 2026. The only supply route crosses mined territory under the threat of shelling. Ukraine has tried to reach starving residents, including by drone.
What is happening in Oleshky echoes the Holodomor of 1932–1933, the genocide committed by the Soviet regime against Ukrainians. Today, Russia is once again using starvation, destruction, and the denial of humanitarian aid as weapons against our people. These are war crimes that demand international attention and concrete action.
I am grateful to Ambassador Anniken Huitfeldt and our Norwegian partners @NorwayUS for their solidarity and co-hosting this briefing. Thank you to @avalaina and @ZarinaZabrisky for their powerful testimonies about Oleshky.
The people of Oleshky must not be forgotten. Their lives depend on international attention and action.

Our assessment is that the wave of violence and arson accompanying the ongoing protests and riots in France, and its subsequent online amplification by international right-wing propaganda networks, may indicate a coordinated hybrid operation involving Russian intelligence services, in collaboration with actors linked to the United States and Israel. The extent of foreign involvement, including any coordination between the suspected actors, remains unverified. It warrants further investigation.
