I'm selling the source code for Moatless... on Moatless.
The marketplace for source code behind Moatless itself, with Stripe Connect payouts and an MCP server for agents.
The full codebase is $5,000.

moatless.store codebases can now opt to include GitHub release assets alongside their code 🎉 Subscribers can then download them in addition to cloning the code that they purchased.

Next drop from #AshConf is out! @joshprice talks about issues that we've all faced time and time again, issues with time, dates, languages, units, measurement...some of the most surprisingly difficult problems of programming!

The whole idea behind moatless.store is that there is just practically zero reason to even bother leaking or stealing one of these things.
The value of code is going down dramatically. This won't be true of all projects for sale on Moatless, but in general it's the equivalent of robbing a gas station to steal a snickers bar. People would rather go direct to source to a reputable seller and pay a reasonable price. Keeping in mind that "small" is a relative term and that corporations and organizations have higher budgets than hobbyists.
I know that it seems strange, but the value of any one given codebase being lower actually opens up *new economic models* for software developers and purchasers! 🎉
To answer your specific question: In the US, Copyright needs a human author. However, by listing the code for sale with terms and a license, you are binding the buyer to those terms, not "publishing" it and they are obligated not to leak it. Only thing you could reasonably do is pursue legal action if you could determine who leaked the work.

@ZachSDaniel1 Is vibe coded or otherwise agent assisted code allowed to be listed? Does it not automatically fall under public domain? And would that be a barrier to sale?

I see a lot of you out there making sick animations, visual effects and designs(with or without AI). I also see a whole lot of people struggling to accomplish such good looking designs on their own (also with or without AI). I've launched moatless.store recently and I think a great use case for it can be selling the source code for these beautiful designs and components directly. 😎

Trying my hand at running paid advertisements for the first time. I've worked alongside some of the best advertisers/marketers out there, but I've mostly just let them cook and focused on the tech 🧑🍳. It is fun to step outside of your day to day and try on different hats.
Seeing if we can't get the moatless.store marketplace off the ground 🚀

Wrote a post spotlighting our first codebase (that wasn't added by me): PG Orbit!
@acrogenesis built something very cool, and was kind enough to provide his thoughts and motivations 🙇

moatless.store, a marketplace for codebases, just had its first sale 😎 Get your codebase listed and sell it! You might be surprised what code people would want to buy, and how many people might want to buy it 😉

Now up on Moatless! A PostgreSQL client for iOS, Android, macOS and Linux 😎
First seller that isn't me, less than 24 hours after launch. This is a 🔥way to kick things off. Really awesome @acrogenesis

Another great use case for moatless.store: Selling libraries! Users can download your library and use it as a path dependency, works for pretty much any language out there. If you're looking for a way to monetize your code, moatless.store can help! I haven't spent a lot of time optimizing for this usecase, but I'm open to adding features specifically to make that seamless.

There are a lot of folks out there working on starter kits: moatless.store would be a great place to sell them 🎉
