Oric Emulator v2.0.0 is here. And this one is personal.

The Oric was my very first computer. A white plastic box with clicky plastic keys that somehow made me fall in love with programming. Every time I work on this microfirmware I get a little rush of nostalgia, and this st fun yet.

So what is new in v2.0.0? Pretty much everything.

There is now an on-screen menu (hit F1) that lets you pick your BASIC ROM, load tapes, insert disks, reset the Oric, all without touching the microSD card or memorizing function key combos. The old F2-F10 tape-by-index system is gone. Good riddance.

The big addition is floppy disk support. Real .dsk images, read and write, with a WD1793 Microdisc controller. This was possible thanks to Pete Gordon and the Oricutron team, who kindly gave us permission to port their disk controller code. If you have ever used Oricutron you know how solid that emulation is. Pete, thank you for building it and for letting us bring it to real hardware.

Tapes now play directly from .tap files as they load, with a progress bar so you can see exactly where you are instead of staring at a blank screen hoping for the best. No more .wav conversion step.

Performance got a serious bump too. Screen rendering is about 30% faster, and the keyboard finally keeps up. Lost keystrokes, stuck keys, black frames while typing, all fixed.

If you already have a SidecarTridge Multidevice, just open Booster, go to the Apps tab, and update. Full changelog and setup instructions here:

This is an excellent game for the Lynx. Each game only lasts a few minutes, but it gets you with the "I know I can do better next time" feeling. Then you're hooked. 😁

That's a wrap! We had dedicated fans travel from all over to join us at Rochester, MN, for JagFest 2026. They hailed from California, Oregon, Missouri, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia -- and even Canada!

We had five Jaguars connected for Aircars and Battlesphere, two even Lynxes for Slime World! Plus four players on Warlords and QuadraPong.

New games were teased or demoed for Lynx, Jaguar, and Nuon. More details on that coming soon. 😉

Thank you to everyone who attended in person or supported the online event. Such an amazing community of diehard fans, and I can't tell you how honored I am that you traveled all this way for a tiny gathering of retrogaming fans. You made this event great!
