A global 🌏 Commission published in the The Lancet Group has called on the medical profession to change the way it treats coronary artery disease – the most common form of heart 🫀 disease – to shift away from a focus on the late stages of the disease towards early prevention and cure.
The global Commission involved more than 20 experts from across the world, including first author Associate Professor @DrSarahjZaman , a cardiologist at #Westmead_Hospital and Principal Research Fellow at the @WARC_USYD Westmead Applied Research Centre University of Sydney, Professor William Parsonage at @QUT and Professor Stephen Nicholls from @MonashUni, as well as experts in the UK, China, Thailand, the US and Saudi Arabia.

Did you know that coronary heart disease (CHD) remains a leading cause of death and disability worldwide? 🌍 About half of those who have been hospitalized for #CHD experience another coronary event within a year! 🏥 This new study sheds light on the factors influencing medication adherence for secondary prevention in patients with acute coronary syndrome (#ACS). 📉💊
🔍 In a clinical trial involving 1,424 patients from 18 hospitals in Australia, results show that taking more medications and attending a cardiac rehabilitation program boost adherence to cardioprotective meds. However, female patients and those with physical disabilities were less likely to stick to their medication regimen.
