Nashville's replica of the Greek Parthenon was built to celebrate Tennessee's Centennial in 1897. Originally a temporary structure, contractors rebuilt it permanently in the 1920s. Here are some notes and sketches for the project from 1923!

Did you know Vanderbilt initially allowed only faculty and grad students to use the stacks of the university library? In 1961 undergrads got access as well. Eight years later, Vanderbilt added the General Library Building's H. Fort Flowers Wing.

Welcome back, Commodores! With the first day of spring classes underway, don't forget to get involved on campus. We have over 500 student organizations to choose from! Pictured here is one of them: the Black Student Alliance circa 1982.

Happy New Year! As 2024 gets underway, be sure to preserve your memories of Vanderbilt with a Commodore Yearbook! Ordering one is a lot easier now than it was in 1951 in person, as pictured here. Visit thecommodoreyearbook.com to place your order.

For decades, Vanderbilt community members have sported buttons and pins to proudly express themselves. Here are a few of our favorites from Special Collections and University Archives.

Digitization is fundamentally changing the research landscape in the humanities. Academic librarians have a vital role to play in this process, but how so? @andersoncliffb provides the answers on our blog!

Big quote that says, “Academic librarians play essential roles in advancing digital humanities among faculty, students, and staff at their institutions.” Below is a picture of the blog post’s author, digital strategist and information scientist Clifford B. Anderson. In the background is an abstract illustration of a network of blue and brown dots connected by lines.

Happy first day of winter! Try not to get snowed in during the weeks ahead, but if you do, remember that it’s always helpful to have another pair of hands. Here are Ralph Whaley (left) and Wilmoth Marshall trying to move a car in the snow in 1961.

Today I started processing the Nashville Soccer History Collection donated by @ClayLaSoul to @VandyLibraries.

Not only does this collection capture the city's soccer fandom, but it's also an interesting way to study Nashville's immigrant and Latinx communities.

The Vanderbilt Hustler was established in 1888, but it wasn't until 1890 that the university granted permission for it to operate. Initially managed by the student athletic association in 1891, The Hustler is now part of Vanderbilt Student Communications.
