Uganda’s HIV Treatment Gains Bring the Youth Gap into Focus

Uganda’s HIV treatment gains have brought a youth gap into focus. Preliminary UPHIA 2025 findings show viral suppression, meaning control of HIV in the blood, at 86% among people aged 15 and above living with HIV, ng those aged 15–24.

Led by @MinofHealthUG, with @Makerere University School of Public Health as prime implementer and U.S. support through PEPFAR and the U.S. @CDCgov, the national survey provides evidence to guide the response. Its findings highlight the need to reach people unaware of their status and strengthen continued care for young people as Uganda works towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

𝐍𝐄𝐖: Uganda has begun testing an experimental vaccine against the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in humans as the virus continues to spread in neighboring DR Congo & has now caused Kenya’s first reported Ebola death.

The first participants received the vaccine last Monday at the Medianda Virus Research Institute and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (MRC/UVRI&LSHTM) research site in Masaka city.

The Phase 1 trial clinical trial will assess whether the ChAdOx-based Bundibugyo Ebola vaccine candidate, known as ChAdOx BDBV, is safe and can trigger an immune response in healthy adults.
