Our analysis suggests tolls will have to TRIPLE at Dartford to pay for the Lower Thames 'smart' motorway Crossing

Private finance is not the 'get out of jail free card' that Rachel Reeves was hoping for

Reinstating the Hythe ferry would remove so many cars off the roads, reducing congestion, and would cost a fraction of the cost of the A326 scheme!

Absolutely great work by Ralph Smyth for @TransportActio2 (TAN) at the Bill committee examining the new law that will privatise the Lower Thames Crossing and Dartford Crossings
We appeared before the Parliamentary committee tasked with scrutinising new laws which will privatise the proposed Lower Thames Crossing (LTC), the Dartford Crossings, and create a new generation of privatised and tolled roads today.

'In England alone, 37% of railways and 38% of roads are in areas currently assessed as at risk from one or more sources of flooding. This is expected to rise to 54% and 46% respectively based on climate change projections by the middle of this century.'

"The Environment Agency said by 2050 - not long after some of these roads might be built - about half of the UK transport network would flood regularly... those things will effect our use of roads and railways."

Nearly 30,000 people were killed or seriously injured on Britain’s roads last year.

That should shape where police focus, not the latest outrage.

It’s time to push the facts to the front. By me in @spectator:

The DfT is considering whether to grant provisional funding for a road project in the New Forest.

However, a major part of the road scheme’s justification has fallen through!

Will they adapt to the current situation or remain fixed on road building? transportactionnetwork.org.uk/dft-pull-the-p…

The period the disruption caused by the building of the A66 has gone up from 5yrs to 9yrs. So much for Project Speed!

This is very dishonest, as the cost of the chaos will have been underestimated when justifying the scheme! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Also, the BBC are not right that the A66 scheme costs £1.4bn. It has been reported by Highways Magazine that the A66 now costs £2.67bn, up from £1.5bn at the 2025 DCO examination! highwaysmagazine.co.uk/companies-and-…

The government should be bold and cancel the poor value for money Lower Thames Crossing. Like Sizewell C, the privatised LTC will be a "terrible deal" for taxpayers, and will lead to increased tolls at Dartford and LTC.

The same path would be announcing a fuel duty freeze (for the 16th year in a row), and prioritising road building over maintenance, public transport and active travel

The resounding message to the Government is that cancelling the scheme is an opportunity to do things differently: to make streets safer and quieter, clean the air, protect our green spaces, and cut congestion by connecting communities with more sustainable transport options.
