Bit of a break from politics. Here's a wonderful & very emotional clip from Band of Brothers.
WWII has ended. The German forces have surrendered and a German general asks permission to give a parting address to his soldiers.
The men listen as the General's words are translated by ainteresting to observe the faces of the allied troops, as they slowly realise that the words of the German General apply just as well to themselves.
Then the unspoken thought arises. Have they been fighting and killing their own brothers?
The overall scene is a brilliant comment on who really suffers from wars. Its a very succinct and understated message that has more impact for the subdued manner by which it is conveyed.
IMHO a wonderful piece of screenplay.

Taxpayers gave mining titan Twiggy Forrest's Fortescu A$308M in energy subsidies in 2025 alone, plus A$99M for an H2 project he abandoned. In exchange, Forrest gave millions for propaganda to pass @AlboMP government's censorship bill. It's a transparent, sinister quid pro quo.
Online misogyny causes sexual violence, say governments. But the science doesn't support such claims. Now, a new investigation reveals that mining titan Twiggy Forrest, who receives millions in subsidies, spent millions to pass censorship legislation. x.com/i/article/2115…

Well, hasn't this set the cat amongst the pigeons! 🐈🕊️🗞️
Another day, another full-page NZ Herald ad. And this one has certainly got people talking!
Don Brash's latest advert has ruffled a few feathers, with some media commentators even openly questioning whether we've advertising laws.
Newsflash: Yes, we have. 😁
RCR Media is a registered third-party promoter, and we've secured authorisations from both ACT and NZ First for this advertisement.
So, what's all the fuss about?
We're explaining how New Zealand's electoral system works, including the perfectly legitimate opportunities for strategic voting under MMP.
We call it informed voting.
Don's argument challenges conventional thinking about the election. He's asking people to look beyond the usual National versus Labour contest and consider how their TWO votes could influence which combination of parties forms the next government.
And there's some fascinating maths behind it.
You might agree with his strategy. You might disagree. You might even think he's completely bonkers!
But surely New Zealanders deserve to understand how their votes work, what their options are, and what the consequences of those choices might be?
Apparently, even explaining those options is enough to upset a few people.
Well, tough biscuits. 😁
We're rather tired of being told what New Zealanders should or shouldn't be allowed to know, consider or discuss.
An informed electorate is fundamental to democracy.
And we're going to keep doing our bit to make sure people have the information they need to make up their own minds.
👉 Curious about the strategy? Explore the maths, the MMP rules and the arguments for yourself:

Auckland's $20m hybrid ferry is doing slow circles on the harbour at night, charging its batteries off diesel generators, because the downtown charger isn't finished. AT says that was the plan. Build the plug before you buy the boat.

National MP Chris Bishop talks about "decarbonisation" with such fervour. He should be leading the Green party.

RNZ rejects allegations of political bias, but even Labour leader Chris Hipkins has questioned the media’s election coverage, saying smaller parties received “disproportionate coverage.” Read more below. chrislynchmedia.com/news-items/con…

Special Snowflake Trigger: Perigo's Election Perspective
"Yes, the Coalition is Uniparty. But this is no excuse to not vote at all and hand the election to Chrissy Carditis and the Islamo-Marxists on a platter. For one thing, the specific economic policies of ACT in particular o those of the Islamo-Marxists, including the Anti-Opportunity Party promoted so breathlessly by TVNZ et al. For another, one may reasonably hope that a number of MPs who enter Parliament on Will-o'-the-Wisp Winston's and They-Them Seymour's coat-tails will be genuinely pro-Western Civilisation, pro-capitalist, pro-free speech, anti-climate hysteria, anti-Islamo-savagery, etc., and will behave accordingly regardless of their cowardly leaders. One may not reasonably hope that of a single MP from the Islamo-Marxist bloc. Here I agree with the thrust of the campaign being run by many on the Right: electorate-vote National, party-vote NZ First or ACT. That is certainly what I intend to do, however tightly I shall have to hold my nose in doing so." oliviapierson.org/blog/special-s…

Sure, there is strategic value in voting for Chris Bishop in Hutt South as Winston Peters recommends.
I might do it if I lived there, but it would stick mightily in my craw.
The Nat's slogan has been "no new taxes".
What we need is clarification on the myriad of charges for s recommended. Many of which will require invasive surveillance cameras and in car tracking devices.
Leaving open the possibility that you will be charged for every kilometre you drive.
Or have to pay extra charges for driving in a certain area at a certain time. (aka time of use taxes)
Or be forced to pay road tolls when billions are misspent elsewhere on feather bedding race based social organisations and or complying with the Paris agreement.
Vote for Mr Bishop if you must, but go to his public meetings and get firm commitments from him in regard to the issues listed in the graphic.
National is not the old centre right party a lot of supporters think it is.
It has (IMHO) been fully infiltrated and captured by the green left.

Most of us do not want Labour/Greens/TPM back in with frosting on TOP.
Are you really prepared to throw this election to the hyenas on the left in an increasingly desperate attempt to save a handful of list MPs?

Why have the Electoral Commission put so much taxpayer money into encouraging NZers to vote? Their funding should be concentrated on maintaining the law around electioneering. (which they haven't done well) Whether people vote or not is IMHO nothing to do with them.

The commission actually has the tools to enforce enrolment. They can prosecute & apply fines if people do not register once they turn 18. However they have no means or mandate to force those people to vote.

There is a rule in political strategy called the 80/20 rule. You campaign on the strengths of your own party for 80% of the time & only 20% criticising your opposition. The Nats are operating in reverse of this rule & it makes them look desperate. Someone needs to take control.
