The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is facing criticism over administrative inefficiency as more than 200 proposals to name or rename roads, chowks (intersections), gardens, and public properties remain stalled. Citizens and public representatives regularly submit these minent historical figures, leaders, or local personalities. However, the process has hit a roadblock because various municipal departments have continuously failed to submit required feedback and verification reports to the PMC Naming Committee.

Before a proposal can proceed, municipal departments are expected to verify whether the location already possesses an official name, whether the proposed name complies with civic guidelines, and if changing an existing name is permissible. The total absence of timely feedback on over 200 pending files has raised serious questions regarding whether PMC departments even maintain updated records of the public properties under their jurisdiction. Despite the civic body's repeated claims of digital record-keeping, transparency, and efficient administration, even basic administrative procedures remain delayed for months.

The Pune Forest Department has firmly denied allegations of illegal tree felling inside the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary following recent claims made by NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar. Pawar had alleged that over 32,000 trees are being indiscriminately cut across 233 hectares in the rest in Raigad for a pumped-storage hydroelectric project. While the Forest Department's clarification explicitly addressed the sanctuary premises, it remained silent on the adjacent Saindongar area. Pawar, maintaining that he is not opposed to the project itself, has urged the government to relocate it away from the ecologically sensitive zone, warning of severe threats to local wildlife, biodiversity, and the potential risk of landslides.
