William Tyndale’s 2nd ed. of the Pentateuch, published in 1534, was his first translation to feature biblical imagery on the title page. If you look closely, you’ll see Moses is depicted with horns in all three woodcuts he’s in (left, right, and bottom).

“We can look to the Peshitta to see how ancient translators tried to translate important theological ideas into their language that still challenge modern translators today.”

In 1536, William Tyndale was executed for translating the Bible into English. His final recorded prayer? “Lord, open the King of England’s eyes.”

Tyndale gave his life so Christians could read God’s Word. But how did we get the Bible, and why can we trust it today?

In this free Church Institute (@institute_ftc), Drs. @drjohnmeade and @pjgurry trace the history of Scripture and help Christians grow in confidence in God's Word. Start today:

Did you know that revising Bible translations is not a modern practice?

Long before modern translations like the ESV, NIV, and NASB, ancient Jewish communities were revising earlier Greek translations of the Scriptures, seeking greater accuracy and clarity as their understanding of the Hebrew text developed.

In this article from the @TextandCanon Institute, @drjohnmeade reflects on the legacy of these early revisions and what they can teach us about the history of Bible translation, and even why we continue to revise translations today. textandcanon.org/the-legacy-of-…
