There are few things as legitimizing for a political project, particularly one that pushes ideas somewhat "non-mainstream" in nature, as being composed of those who are "excellent" in every sense of the term

Here's what that would look like, and what the metrics are, for observable excellence:

It is utterly insane that “citizen only voting” must be fought for, and is still more insane that the GOP refused to pass the SAVE Act and accomplish it

Most insane is that a whole party fights implacably against citizen only voting, and demonizes those like Mitchell who do fight for it

Nevertheless, here we are, and she’s doing good work

Joseph Shipp, 60, went right back to breaking into Chicago homes just months after he got out of prison for breaking into Chicago homes.

In Edgewater, a 27-year-old woman woke up on her couch and found a stranger standing there holding her phone, a beer and a box of cookies. wned her necklace the next day.

In Wrigleyville, prosecutors say he cased a couple's house, got in through the basement window and hauled their things off in a suitcase and a wagon.

He was arrested when he came back to the block. He has 8 burglary convictions going back to 1992.

He was on parole when it happened...our ancestors knew how to fix this

JD Vance is indubitably correct that she’s an “unstable maniac”

And that would have been something impossible for even a Republican to say even a few years ago

Much has been achieved, even if much must still be done
Great talk by JD Vance

He’ll be a terrific president after he wins in 2028

I think so

A whole different world used to exist, as AJP Taylor wrote about in his Oxford History of England:

"Until August 1914 a sensible, law-abiding Englishman could pass through life and hardly notice the existence of the state beyond the post office and the policeman…He could travel ntry forever without a passport or any sort of official permission. He could exchange his money without restriction or limit. He could buy goods from any country in the world on the same terms as he bought goods at home. For that matter a foreigner could spend his life in the country without permit and without informing the police…All this was changed by the impact of the Great War…The state established a hold over its citizens which though relaxed in peace time, was never to be removed and which the Second World War was again to increase. The history of the English people and the English State merged for the first time."

If you want to learn about what the world was like in that era, if you want to know what sort of world used to exist, 1913 by Charles Emmerson is by far my favorite

I cover why he led the charge, how his patrician attitude shaped the conflict, and why he lost after about a decade and a half of fighting:

"Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves."

The New York Times wrote that on October 30, 1963, two days after the Visigoths (wreckers) started destroying Penn Station to make room for a ridiculous sports arena

How right that was

And it is a for countries too: if we refuse to invest in what is beautiful so that it can be replaced with bread and circuses (EBT and arenas) for the masses, we will get the very sort of "civilization" we have now, which is a degraded one premised on the equality of man, the utility of buildings, and the insurmountable sanctity of chasing frivolous pleasures

Prosecutors say Charles Kelley, 19, took part in three burglary sprees across Chicago, and a judge just sent him home on an ankle monitor.

That's all he got for 7 burglaries, felony theft and an attempted break-in at Al's Italian Beef on Clark Street during Tuesday's North Side ur of those burglaries came in under 30 minutes on 95th Street, prosecutors say. He was already on pretrial release from an arrest on Oct. 16. That release was never revoked.

Prosecutors didn't even ask to hold him.

Then Judge John Hock RELEASED him on electronic monitoring.

Seven burglaries, and he still sleeps at home

That's what a pro-crime system looks like

A promise was written by the barons into Magna Carta in 1215: no free man can be punished "except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land."

That phrasing had meaning. A peer was a member of the peerage, the titled nobility. To be tried by his peers (a right the Lords maintained and exercised dutifully into the 1940s) meant that the case would be judged on its merits, not out of either envy and spite from the peasantry, or fear and intimidation of the peasantry. Instead, his fellow lords would sit and hear the case, and decide justly on its merits. Typically they did this well

Who today can say that a jury trial means he is actually being tried by his peers? Lawyers know how racial groups and the sexes tend to think, so a jury can quickly turn into just an ethnic headcount. Not quite the promise of Magna Carta

Why was government architecture so terribly ugly for so long?

Because beauty is a natural rejection of equality, and so the egalitarians, who have ruled since the early 20th century, hate it

Now that is finally changing thanks to President Trump
The U.S. government just unveiled the majestic Greco-Deco design for the new federal courthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The building is at once monumental and welcoming, classical and original. The iris capitals are an inspired touch, drawing on Tennessee’s natural beauty and ne of a federal building.

The Chattanooga courthouse is precisely the kind of building that President Trump’s Executive Order on federal architecture—“Making Federal Buildings Beautiful Again”—was designed to produce.

When the courthouse is completed, it will stand as the living proof that the Order represents wise and humane public policy—something all Americans, regardless of political party, can and should support. Beautiful public buildings are not a partisan matter; they belong to everyone.

Our ancestors left us the great churches and cathedrals, the country houses, and the sort of civilization that consisted of men in tails squiring about ladies in dresses

We will leave our grandchildren Marvel t-shirts and strip malls full of tattoo parlors and ethnic restaurants
Civilization prospers when old men plant trees in the shade of which they will never sit, but their grandchildren will
