I worry about optimizing less now than I did when my net worth was 1% of what it is now

There are many lessons I have learned in that

I absolutely love this lol

I have thought a lot about how I will let me boss know I'm retiring when the time comes

My current thought is that I will use 2 weeks of PTO and ask to schedule my next check in on the day I get back which is when I'll put in my 2 weeks

That allows for a pretty easy last month before retirement kicks off
I actually gave my retirement notice in my annual review.

I knew I was going to do it (had nothing to do with performance).

I let my manager do all her yapping, and then said, "yea, Im not going to do any of those things. This is my retirement notice. Your manager knows"

That was 5 years ago next week.

It depends

People on here talk about optimizing this IMO

I like having a decent buffer so I don't have to worry about bills clearing

Money will always matter, but we will live in more and more abundance
"Money won't matter in 2036."

This is the craziest prediction of our generation.

Elon Musk said it, and he believes robotics and AI will lead to so much abundance that money will become obsolete.

Is this actually possible?

As someone who was a Celtics fan growing up it is hard hearing about the financial struggles of Antoine Walker, Delonte West and now Paul Pierce

Athletes are a great reminder that we need to stay financially disciplined even in the years we are "thriving" and that we also need to manage risk
Sports Illustrated estimated that 60% of NBA players go broke within 5 years of retirement.

Paul Pierce is no exception.

Paul earned $200 million in career earnings over 19 seasons.

He even won a championship and Finals MVP with the '08 Boston Celtics.

But Pierce recently ome in the middle of a support battle with his ex.

Paul's finances were listed as:

• $300,000 in the bank
• $3 million in property
• $48,000 a month in child and spousal support

His attorney told the court he is "drowning financially."

There's a lesson here:

High income ≠ high net worth.

Step 1 has to be to get financial stability

I don't understand why you wouldn't be working 70 hours a week until you have it

By financial stability I mean a roof over your head and never worrying about where your next meal will come from

People post all the time about focusing on returns

That isn’t something you can control

What can you control?

How much you contribute each month
The biggest hack we have for retiring early:

-Contributing $2,000 a week to our investments

As long as we keep doing this, wealth will be built

I am guilty of doing this too

What we should be doing though is setting automatic investments then focusing on our careers, hobbies and family while the investments work in the background
“VOO and chill.”

I checked my portfolio 47 times today. I have no intention of selling for 20+ years.

The VOO part is easy. Working on the chill.

Good night fam 😊🤑🤟🏻

If Fleetwood Town can beat Arsenal then you should be able to get your 401(k) match
Arsenal just lost to Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup.

Arsenal’s roster: $1.5 BILLION
Fleetwood Town’s roster: $3 million

Fleetwood is currently 18th in the 4th level of English soccer.

Possibly the biggest upset in English soccer history.

I’m that guy

Except I buy weekly
Some guy buying the SP500 every month, grilling burgers in his backyard right now, and doing 0 research, will outperform a shocking number of people who spend 8 hours a day analyzing the stock market.

Financial advice:

Never take individual stock picks from me

I'm probably decent at it until the day I press buy then form there I'm a ball of nerves

That is why I don't buy individual stocks anymore

I recommend that anyone who relates to this to follow @TheMattViera if you aren’t already

His content around “mini retirements” is inspiring and has given me many ideas on how to utilize PTO, gap years and leaves in the future!
I don’t understand why people think you need to work from age 22 until 65 without any gaps
