I'm not angry. I understand his message without problem. I can't be bothered to explain why his meteor and uncool life forms analogies are wrong, and this meme.

@Sinnoware I had to look up if this was real and my god, it was. My jaw simply hit the floor. He was always an ass.

@Sinnoware Yeah, it’s a strange comment. Artists are just gonna art… sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn’t, or it’s just not the right time for ab idea yet. Either way, I venerate Looking Glass and Doug Church for creating a design culture that led to many success from legacy studios

@Sinnoware Yeah, he certainly had the mindset of an asshole CEO down even back then.

@Sinnoware he was right though. He is an autistic realist. Just don’t hate on him for being rational.

@Sinnoware Tim Sweeny might be stating facts, but opening with "This isn't a sad day" is nasty work. You can get your point across without being callous.

@Sinnoware This is even more relevant today. Game dev costs have increased 2x every 2-3 years. 2 billion now for GTA6. It's an exponential curve. Many studios are being closed. Game must also make business sense. Nowadays in internet age, it's easier to find a niche, as community is global.

@Sinnowareink it's hyperbole to say that Looking Glass Studios was so influential to gaming's overall direction, that we might not have nearly the variety of games we do today, or the tropes we got now.

And of course Tim fucking Sweeney would be dismissive of them.

A lot of those guys went on to make Guitar Hero if memory serves, so that new clone out? Yeah, thank the Cambridge boys.

@Sinnoware I think a bad fiction writer wrote Tim Sweeney into existence and now we all have to put up with a badly written villain

@Sinnoware He had a fair point about the costs. But the dinosaur analogy aged badly when you consider how many of Looking Glass's ideas survived and shaped the games that came after it.

@Sinnoware It’s worth remembering that remaining silent is free.

Tim could have said nothing. It would have been much, much easier to make no comment than to write this.

Even if he felt satisfaction at the demise of others he could have kept it to himself.

He chose not to.

@Sinnoware I'm assuming "cooler life forms" is all that slop by Timmy, that I won't touch even with a stick. Happy to be an "MIT Grad" guy, who still plays original System Shock, Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age.

@Sinnoware Why would he even try to argue this, even if low sales is what did Looking Glass in, we should lament that they didn’t reach a broader audience, rather than advocate appealing to the lowest common dominator. Thief and System Shock were huge influences on the industry!

@Sinnoware This btw is why studios were making amazing games in the 90s, 2000s- because leadership was willing to just bluntly say what happened and didn't gaf about public reception

This is what a studio closure looks like without the corporate speak- look below for why we get corpospeak

@Sinnoware Friendly reminder that just because a company is successful and makes a lot of money does not mean they're good nor that the people who run them are good. Tim Sweeney is proof of that.
