REAX SN92: is locking better than burning? My take: potentially positive, with a trade-off. 🗿
The team says the extra 8 percentage points of owner emissions will go into conviction lock, topped up daily, while miner payouts stay the same after weights are rescaled.
Burning ly. Locking keeps it unavailable for sale for a period, but the tokens still exist and can become sellable as they unlock.
Why choose the lock? Withholding miner emissions can reduce a subnet's share of incoming TAO. Reducing that withholding could mean more TAO flows into the pool.
So the trade is less permanent supply reduction for potentially more pool liquidity. That can help trading, but it doesn't guarantee a higher price.
