Finally, someone is putting numbers on the table.

Reform's £40bn plan: £20bn off welfare, £8bn off net zero, £6bn off foreign aid, plus student loans, quangos and an immigration health surcharge. The NHS, armed forces and police are protected, they say.

The money goes towards a nce, so working people keep more of their pay.

Launch is Monday. Healey's Budget is Wednesday. Let's see which one backs the people who work.

Correct.

Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be.

Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them.

Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week.

Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact.

Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia.

SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR.

That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell.

End of story.
STARLINK WORKS THE SAME WAY ITS ALWAYS WORKED. ITS NOT A WEAPONS SYSTEM, NO MATTER HOW MUCH UKRAINE WANTS IT TO BE.

Two blokes walk into a Wetherspoons and get refused service because one of them is wearing an England top. Supporting the national football team is now apparently a problem.

This isn’t the first time either. People keep getting turfed out of Spoons for wearing England shirts, g that looks even slightly right-leaning.

Tim Martin likes to present himself as a sensible, right-leaning bloke who backed Brexit and talks common sense so why does his chain keep employing staff who treat ordinary English patriotism like a threat?

It’s utter madness. You shouldn’t get barred from a pub for supporting your own country’s team I think Wetherspoons should be ashamed of themselves.

Well, I guess I'm going to have to shift my neutral stance on Israel. We are going to have to leverage what we can to get Israel to change in this policy. And the sooner the UK right falls out of love with Israel -- which, as far as I can see, is a result of them being tired of the left and Yookay Muslims backing Palestine so hysterically, and, at the elite level, because they import every American political pathology like a damn joblot -- the better. You cannot support a nation that backs the dismemberment of your own and still consider yourself patriotic.

Now, the reason for this is likely to be, in part, because of the cack-handed way that our foreign policy establishment and political elite has gone about things, but given the influence of Israel in the United States, it's a big problem. It is one of the biggest foreign policy issues facing Britain today.
Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Israel to support Argentina over the Falklands, The Telegraph can reveal.

The Israeli prime minister told diplomats to change his country’s official position and join Buenos Aires in calling for direct talks over the future of the islands.

There’s a thing called “cocktail eyes” - when you’re talking to someone and they’re already scanning the room for someone more important.

A lot of our politicians have cocktail eyes about the job itself. And we're the ones they're ignoring.

Local councillors who bang on about Palestine are treating their actual role (bins, hedges, planning, antisocial behaviour - the local good) as beneath them. National politicians who treat e.g. Net Zero as a chance to be “world leaders” are doing the same thing at a bigger scale: chasing status and smugness instead of the national good (energy abundance and security).

In both cases they need to put their eyes back in the room and focus on the people they are meant to serve. As Collingwood says, that alone would radically alter our country.
Read all of this. It is more important than you think. Wayne Dixon is a councillor in Leeds. He doesn't get involved in foreign policy issues. No standing with Ukraine or Palestine or Israel or wherever. He doesn't even get involved much in national issues. He just focusses, laser like, on doing small things that make the lives of his local constituents better. Cleaning up footpaths covered in wet leaves. Harassing the local authorities until they fix potholes. Cleaning up graffiti. Trimming hedges so they look neat and tidy. Liaising with the police to deal with antisocial behaviour. Ensuing that the local schools have enough places for every local who wants to send their kids there. Getting bus stops put in the right place when roads are re-laid or new roads are built. Making sure that green spaces where kids play football are not flogged off. Ensuring that important community groups and support networks are helped as much as they can be.

It is hyper local politics. It is the work that only somebody with high energy and who knows the local area can do. If we had 20,000 Wayne Dixons, the cumulative transformation in the entire country would be shocking over ten years. Any sports fan knows that marginal gains have huge cumulative effects when achieved consistently over a period of time (see the Chicago Bulls and Team Sky). Same with countries. 150,000 little, easy, cheap things over 10 years and you have almost a new country. This is achievable right now, with no changes in legislation or 'new elite'.

More politics should be about exactly this: putting right the 20 streets closest to where you live and making the lives of people who live there better. Remember: there are black and white pictures of a young Lee Kwan Yew sweeping the streets of Singapore. That's where he started his politics. Of course we need to get the big things right -- and Britain is facing at least three existential problems that only central government can address. Yet simultaneously, we also need this.

This train worker is wearing a Palestine badge and he gets questioned quite rightly for it by a Jewish passenger at Farringdon Station in London.

During the confrontation, he denied Hamas’s responsibility for October 7th and claimed ivilians.

He then threatened to have the Jewish passenger forcefully removed from the station.

When Reform's letters to postal voters in Portsmouth were ready to go out, two undercover ITV reporters were personally responsible for almost two hundred of them in the ward of Drayton and Farlington.

Reform lost Drayton and Farlington by 24 votes.

The same two men were responsible for delivering leaflets to half the ward of Baffins.

Reform lost Baffins by 85 votes.

These were men whose purpose was to infiltrate Reform UK and damage it.

In two wards decided by a few dozen votes, we believe there are reasonable grounds to conclude that ITV altered the result of British elections.

There is no precedent for this.

It is certainly not journalism.

We believe it to be criminal.

We will hold ITV and its activists to account.

This is clearly insane.

A charity set up to maintain London’s bridges is sitting on £1.5 BILLION, funding political campaigns and giving £1.1m to a group with links to a charity now under investigation over alleged Hamas connections.

Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge is still closed and other Thames crossings are crumbling.

What on earth are @cityoflondon doing?

Official figures out this morning report that last month, the UK government borrowed £24.5 billion.

But the fineprint shows that almost £11 billion of that extra borrowing went on debt interest payments.

That's more than £400 per household on debt service costs, in September his financial year, from April to September, the government's debt interest payments amount to £61 billion.

Now, this number will barely feature in UK newspapers and across our airwaves. It may be mentioned in passing in out-of-the-way business sections, or on the odd business bulletin.

But this huge debt interest bill won't register with the vast majority of our political and media class, or impact the national debate.

Let me explain why that's so wrong and so dangerous ...

£61 billion is a massive amount of money.

It's equivalent to the UK's entire annual defence budget – the money we're paying, increasingly to foreign creditors, simply to service our national debt for six months, not to pay any of it back.

£61 billion is equivalent to the money you'd raise over a year from adding a whopping 7 pence to the basic rate of income tax.

For £61 billion, you could build around 40 large, state-of-the-art hospitals, or employ more than 100 thousand extra nurses for ten years.

£61 billion would pay for free-at-the-point of use social care for everyone who needs it in the UK, for an entire year – three times over.

Again, this is the debt interest bill on Britain's spiralling national debt – now more than 3 trillion pounds – over the last six months alone.

The UK's public finances are close to meltdown – yet so many MPs and journalists continue blithely to view ever more public spending and borrowing as the answer to every problem.

Those who highlight the dangers post by our hugely precarious national accounts are dismissed as cranks, ideologues or worse.

But basic arithmetic has no ideology.

And there is nothing "progressive" or "kind" or "right-on" about driving the UK ever closer to the fiscal cliff edge, provoking a crisis that will make the "austerity" years of the 2010s feel like a picnic, a crisis in which poorer households will suffer the most.

Yes, Britain's national debt is lower than that of France. But because our borrowing has been rising so sharply, and because we're so prone to inflation, our debt service costs are much higher.

The UK is spending a disgraceful 3.6pc of GDP on public debt interest, while France spends less than 2.5pc.

Endless airtime and column inches are devoted to spurious conversations about a billion or two of additional "fiscal headroom" we may or may not have in three years' time.

And, of course, any "extra headroom" is immediately pledged in new spending – which means yet more borrowing.

These conversations are a waste of time – and, in fact, are deeply counterproductive. Three-year fiscal forecasts, even one- and two-year forecasts, routinely turn out to be askew by tens of billions of pounds.

I'm not saying we don't need fiscal rules - we do, but we need more immediate rules, which actually bite, acting as a meaningful constraint on out-of-control borrowing and spending.

Instead, political and media sages present the nation with spuriously precise discussions about fictional fiscal outcomes way into the future – using rules which are deliberately designed to kick arithmetic realities into the long grass ....

An increasingly expensive, over-bearing, out of control state is not the answer to Britain problems.

But unless we change course, it will certainly be our downfall.

Please like/share if you think what I'm saying is important – and if fiscal realities should feature more prominently in our national debate.

And for more sharp, plain-speaking economic analysis subscribe to:
