I have this confirmed that this should not have been an error and if it happened now, it would not be an error. 2017 just didn’t have the checks need balances that we have in place now.
@ScoringChanges No DP. A.Gordon reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by first baseman Y.Alonso. A.Mondesi advances to 2nd, on a missed catch error by third baseman T.Plouffe, assist to first baseman Y.Alonso. A.Gordon out at 1st, third baseman T.Plouffe to first baseman Y.Alonso.

The rules and the manual spell it out clearly. Here is the rule, which is 9.12(b)(4)
"No error is charged to:
(4) any fielder when, after fumbling a ground ball or dropping a batted ball that is in flight or a thrown ball, the fielder recovers the ball in time to force out a runner at any base"
The manual then adds this, which directly addresses this play.
"This would also apply in a situation in which a fielder at second takes a throw for a force out but pulls his foot off the base before receiving the ball; if the fielder is still able to throw to first in time to put out the batter, there is no error."

@ScoringChanges @JayPosnerSD @KenInTheBox The rule stating an error is erased if a forced out is obtained is 9.12(d)(4). It states that the misplay is not an error in three cases: (1) after a missed ground ball, (2) dropping a fly ball or (3) a thrown ball. No mention about failing to tag base as in 9.12(b)(4). Wrong?

Here is the passage from the OS Manual about runners advancing on a misplay and why it should still be an error.
"If a fielder commits a misplay and two runners attempt to advance additional bases but the defense recovers in time to put one of them out (or would have put one of them out if not for an error), no error should be charged unless the runner put out was the trail runner AND the lead runner scored on the misplay. This is because a team would typically not want to sacrifice a baserunner in order to allow another baserunner to advance when the advancing baserunner doesn’t even score on the play (having runners on first and second with none out would almost always be preferable to having a runner on third and one out)."

I wonder if they got this rule wrong.
I’m wondering if the scorer went with no error because Contreras was thrown out at second trying to advance.
This is okay would negate the error normally, but the exception is the run scoring. Without the bobble this would have been bases he bobble, it’s runner on third, and two outs, but the run scored. If there wasn’t a runner on second, this is clearly no error according to the rules, but because the run scored, an error should be charged. I might have to check with @EliasSports on this, but this really should be an error, unless he is saying the fielder wasn’t in position to play the ball, which I would say is not correct.

@ScoringChanges Waited 30 min to put it in my book but if they’re not changing it tonight then 🤷♂️

He very clearly would not have scored, this is absolutely an E9 and no RBI. This should get changed. R2 is no where near third because he is holding to see if the ball is caught.
@ScoringChanges I don’t have the overhead but Joe Davis said Bauers wasn’t going until the bobble

Busy day and night yesterday, so just getting to this, but nope, you can see the third base coach is holding the runner, since he was going back to second at the start of the play.
@ScoringChanges Aranda is given only 1 RBI on this single and not 2 because of the error, but that runner on second probably scores anyway? Shouldn’t this be a 2 RBI single?

This is a terrible take. It’s great to see Milwaukee make the World Series … against either Tampa or Cleveland. I’m excited to watch for sure.
I get sick of Yankees/Dodgers/Red Sox/Cubs … totally good with new blood.

This should be a triple from what this looks like, because playing a carom off the wall isn’t ordinary effort. I need to see a better replay but this looks like a straight triple.
Dodgers have life in the eighth as Will Smith doubles and advances to third on an error by Sal Frelick in right field

Much like yesterday, this is scored correctly. You can see that Bazzana is not stealing at all, and only goes to second when the ball gets away. This is absolutely not a stolen base.
@MLBStats Double check that wild pitch on Bazzana in the Top of the 2nd. He was running for 2nd base before the wild pitch occurs. That should be a steal #guardians

This was scored correctly as a wild pitch. The high home shows that Ramirez only went when he read the ball in the dirt.
@MLB Fix the scoring error, give Jose the Stolen Base. He was off before the ball the ball got to the plate. Announcers called it a stolen base. It was a 2-2 count and he knew it was time to go. @MLB @ScoringChanges

Since folks are posting their thoughts on the schedule and MLB, here is my fix. I think this works out the best.
Add two teams to get to 32, and have two 16-team leagues (American and National), and two eight-team divisions.
You play 12 games against your own division (84 games)
You play 6 against the other division in your league (48 games)
You play one three game inter league series against one of the other divisions (24 games)
84+48+24=156
Of you needed to get to 162, you play two interleague series from the other division, based on the final standings (1st place plays the 1st and 8th place teams, etc.), but I’d leave it at 156. This gets you a 26 1/2 week season with a four-day All-Star break.
If this were in place for 2026, season would have started March 26 and ended September 27.
In each league, 1st place earns a bye. Second place in each league is the automatic wild card and hosts the wildcard round. The next two best teams in each league are the 5 and 6 seed.
This should avoid a team with a losing or .500 record getting in, it allows for every team to have one day off per week over the course of the season, and all series are three-game sets.
Playoffs are always 2-2-1 or 2-3-2 and the only days off are the dashes.
Thoughts? I just don’t see any downside…

It’s almost like they heard me…
OK this ball for Ramírez has to change to a hit. This was ruled a fielder’s choice, but this isn’t that. The second baseman is at full stretch and the ball ticks off his glove. The fielding of this is not ordinary effort.
This should flip to hit for Ramírez.

With this change, @RedSox Ceddanne Rafaela had his average rise from .283 to .285. @CleGuardians 2B Travis Bazzana now has seven errors, not eight.

ANALYSIS: A much sent over play, and I knew this would change. On a play like this, the scorer has to judge whether or not the fielder rushed the ball when he didn't need to. Had Bazzana stopped his momentum, set, and thrown to first, Rafaela most likely beats this, so Bazzana is in a do-or-die situation, so he isn't punished with a throwing error.
Additionally, the hitter gets the benefit of the doubt here.
